Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva has accepted the challenge thrown up by former Education Minister Bandula Gunwardane on the recent international sovereign bond issue.

Mr. Gunawardane said this bond issue had been made at an interest rate of 6.1 percent. He said it was the highest interest rate offered in a bond issue. Then, he challenged either Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake or Dr. de Silva for a public debate on the economic impact of this bond issue.

Accordingly, Dr. de Silva said he was ready for it.

"I will explain what kind a mess they have created and the consequences faced in dealing with the decisions taken at that time. It will have massive consequences for so many years .What we do is to resuscitate the economy from this mess. I will explain what the new government has in store," he said. (Kelum Bandara)

Horri Jimonis Monday, 01 June 2015 07:28 AM

Very good Sir, this time give the fellow left

Bubble Banda Monday, 01 June 2015 07:29 AM

We really appreciate your chellenge Sir. Teach Bandula a good lesson this time and make this idiot not to open his mouth again on Economics.

    J Palitha Monday, 01 June 2015 07:30 AM

if you say - Debate is in English, then Bandula will go and hide behind MR.

Vijith Pieterz Monday, 01 June 2015 07:31 AM

Bandula first of all learn to write your name in English, better you start from ABC...

    BuffaloaCitizen Monday, 01 June 2015 08:28 AM

Well done Harsha, tear this fellow who is only fit to be a three wheeler driver.

    Nuwan Monday, 01 June 2015 09:03 AM

Bandula is the person how said that a family can live with Rs. 7500 per month. Then later on he was busy giving definitions to a slang "Gediya". Teach this man some proper Economics and common sense.

    PakikkamKata Monday, 01 June 2015 09:20 AM

Bandula is a shameless Katussa. His only effort is to cheat the general public by pretending to be a high class economist. He should be economic with his foul mouth.

It is high time go for open explanation about the bond issue, because the entire Country is misunderstood the situation and pointing at the Primeminister and the Governer Mr Mahendran as economic mess. However the IMF will give the final decision too.Let everything be clean.

    Mandy Monday, 01 June 2015 10:06 AM

Bandula is no match for Dr.Harsha at all.

    hansro Monday, 01 June 2015 10:22 AM

Banduala may be an expert on economics. But he twist everything to his advantage so that semi-literate people believe what ever he says as gospel truth . Debate will expose him well and truly.

    Tudor Monday, 01 June 2015 04:26 PM

He is not an economist either.

Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 01 June 2015 05:40 PM

Dr Harsha de Silva should start the debate with the question as to how much it would cost a single person to live for a month and whether Rs. 2,500.- is enough considering that prices have fallen a little after the Yahapaalana government. And then see what the so called economic expert "Dana Rina" has to stay.
