UNP parliamentarian and economist Harsha De Silva said Violating all financial regulations and laws of this country, the Government is spending public funds as if tit belongs to themt,

addressing a press conference in Colombo today he said the Government invested about Rs.3.3 billion on Greek bonds even though it was aware that the Greek economy had broken down and this careless investment incurred a loss of about Rs.2.2 billion.

Dr. De Silva said the same people who manipulated the share market were behind this racket as well.

“When we raised this matter in Parliament, the Government avoided answering the questions by saying this case was being taken up in the Supreme Court, Dr. De Silva said.”

“If an ordinary person committed a minor offence, he is punished and the case is given publicity but when there is a major racket running into millions of rupees the culprits get away without any punishment or publicity. When we try to educate the people about these financial rackets through Parliament our voices are stifled.”

He said this was why he had convened a news conference to inform the people about the Greek mystery.(Ajith Siriwardana)

All what we need is a strong opposition!!! when are you going to realize it?????

    Nadi Saturday, 13 October 2012 05:03 AM

The people doing this control the executive, parliament, the police, judiciary, media and beat up people who speak out. When the opposition cannot even agree on whether to attend a rally against executive power why would those enriching themselves at public expense decide to stop? Mr.de Silva is an exception the rest of the opposition are a disgrace.

Thanks Mr Harsha for showing to public the corruptions.

    Time to change the regime.

    Ruwanl Saturday, 13 October 2012 04:11 AM

Dr Harsha has been saying these things for quite some time but we are all waiting for the UNP and the other parties to organize an island wide protest to send the government home. It is high time that the president woke up from his deep slumber and took action against those who are responsible. The UNP has to ensure that this is done by hook or by crook. Otherwise the UNP will be in the opposition for ever

    Ajith Saturday, 13 October 2012 03:34 AM

We too can speak like this but we need action please..........

    Managala Friday, 12 October 2012 09:51 AM

Most probably he will be the Finance Minister under UNP regime that will come to power in a undetermined future day.Dear Sir we expect you to have the same power of statistics and the eagle's eye of seeing corruption on that day .

    dutugemunu1 Friday, 12 October 2012 09:23 AM

    Dear Dr Harsha,
Do not blame us as opposition must give wide publicity to this rather than blaming government .what opposition does is make statement and keep quiet. At least see how opposition parties reacted in the past and get ideas from them.

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 12 October 2012 12:00 AM

Of course, the government thinks the country's assets belong to them, because the stupid people have given them absolute power to do as they please. By conferring Royalty to the incumbents, these very same people have accepted the principle that in the olden days the Treasury and Granary was the sole property of the King to do as he pleases. via DM Android App

    Madhawa,S. Friday, 12 October 2012 08:59 AM

If the amount is billion all can get their share effectively. Don't worry this is my Island

    Nishantha Friday, 12 October 2012 08:53 AM

    Action please....
