Govt. seeks Rs. 90 mn for MS' New York visit

The Government yesterday sought parliamentary approval for the allocation of Rs.90 million to meet the expenses in connection with the President’s attend the UN sessions in New York.

A supplementary estimate was also submitted to parliament seeking Rs.1.3 billion for the purchase of vehicles by government agencies.

The supplementary estimate was submitted by Government Chief Whip Gayantha Karunatilleke. The vehicles were to be leased.

Approval was also sought for the allocation of Rs.18 million to the newly-established Presidential Investigation Unit.

Meanwhile, billions of rupees are to be spent on new miniseries set up by the current regime and to pay salaries to employees at various government institutions.(Yohan Perera)

130 million rupees for government vehicles any person who visits sethsiripaya knows the money wasted on vehicles that are not even used! Almost half of all luxury vehicles that occupy roads and guzzle petrol are government vehicle! Dont know where the know it all professors are now?

Usual drivel comments without rational thinking. 90M Rs is only US$630,000. This is chicken feed when you go out of our country. How much does one pay for a 7 day tour of Europe in three star hotels - over Rs.350,000 each. You cannot compare SL Rs with US$ when travelling overseas.Anyway if it was MR it would have been 500M Rs.

If you want to convert to US$ and compare, you should also convert our average salary to $ and compare with that of US, because it is our people who have to pay, not US tax payers. Did the country benefit more than the expenses? or was is another ego trip like MR?

We are Yahapalanaya. If we try to justify our extravagance by comparing to MR, then we will fall in the same trap and fleece our countrymen. Next time they may say MS expenses will be higher to cover inflation from MRs time. All need to grow up if our country is to benefit.
