Govt. postpones amendments to Penal Code

Government has decided to postpone the enactment of legislations to ban hate speech, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella informed Parliament today.

Mr. Kiriella who responded to a question raised by Opposition MP Dinesh Gunawardane on the matter, said the Bills pertaining to amendments to Penal code and Code of Criminal Proceedings will not be taken up on January 8, 2016.

He said a final decision on the matter will be made later. (Yohan Perera)

    gov should not just keep amending the proposals due to protests. In sri Lanka every day there is a protest as lot of people have nothing to do due to unemployment. During MR rule no one could protest as they will be taken one way trip in white van.
