Government would not take any action on the no-confidence motion signed by 112 Parliamentarians against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakse said today.

“Opposition’s motion would not be taken up for Parliamentary debate, since the UNP based government was authorised to decide whether to take action on it or not,” he said.

“Even a grade two child is able to guess the result if the motion is taken up in Parliament, where the Opposition has the majority,” Mr. Rajapaksa said.

He said the no-confidence motion was useless because President Maithripala had vowed to dissolve Parliament soon.

“The government has acknowledged that 20th Amendment to the Constitution would not get passed if the disruptive behaviour of some Parliamentarians, who are joined with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s political campaign continues,” he said.

However, he said they would allow and support once the Opposition votes in favour to the 20th Amendment.

Speaking about the allegations levelled against the Prime Minister, Mr. Rajapaksa said President Sirisena had earlier said in his manifesto that Ranil Wickremensinghe would be appointed as the Prime Minister. Accordingly, people voted for President Sirisena and opposition’s attempts to unseat the Prime Minister were not appropriate.

He also urged all Parliamentarians to support to get 20th Amendment passed soon without hoodwinking the people. (Piyumi Fonseka)

"Even a grade two child is able to guess the result if the motion is taken up in Parliament, where the Opposition has the majority"In other words, Even a grade two child knows that appointment of a minority prime minister is unethical and not peaceable.

    Praba Sunday, 07 June 2015 10:31 PM

What u said is true. A grade two child understands that this govt is not ethical and is a result of a bribe given to MS. RIP the Rainbow clan.

Democracy at its best - start your journey back to opposition. I am not a supporter of MR or attempting to bring him back the politics. But Ranil has already forgotten that he promised to eliminate and punish those who were involved in corruption. But he shamelessly stood by and protects the bank robber - Mahendran.

The present government is shameless. It is not too late to sack the Governor of the Central Bank. It has been proved beyond doubt that this government is as corrupt as the Rajapaksa government. Time to pack you bags and gap and GO! PLEASE!

    Harrry Sunday, 07 June 2015 06:20 PM

If you are a real Justice minister why you are so scared on the motion? Let it go and face it.

    Mason Sunday, 07 June 2015 06:18 PM

Let the 20A RIP for awhile. There are many unsolved matters pending, being blocked by UPFA. It is therefore better to dissolve Parliament and go for elections. Bring back the UNP government. They are better many times over than the disposed Rajapakse regime.Let the new government tackle the pending issues and go forward. The people should be vigilant at all times to see that they do not slip up.

    Dilip Sunday, 07 June 2015 06:07 PM

You people are changing all the rules and regulations for your government to benefit, even though they are wrong. Are you worried about certain leaders who are loved by the people? Some times it is pathetic to hear what you people say in the media. I had a lot of respect for your past leaders. With this present crowd, I dought it very much.

    nira Sunday, 07 June 2015 05:39 PM

Not only you Damian...70% of the voters will celebrate it...
