The government is to send a delegation to Kandy to meet the Mahanayakas of the four Nikayas to explain the circumstances that led to the arrest and detention of General Sarath Fonseka, General Secretary of the SLFP Maitripala Sirisena said.

The monks had recently objected to the government decision to arrest General Fonseka over various charges which are yet to be formally filed against the former Army Chief. (SAJ)

    Tuesday, 16 February 2010 07:59 AM

If Mhanayaka's don't listen there is a possibility that they may drag the 4 maha Nayakas before a Military court.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 04:59 PM

    Monday, 15 February 2010 02:25 PM

This is very shameful to the Buddhism and the Mahanayakas too, in which the government even not to listen to the most respected clergies.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 02:21 PM

    toooooo late.................

    Monday, 15 February 2010 02:12 PM

Mahanayakas of the four Nikayas must take stern action. Otherwise people wont respect you.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 01:43 PM

No need explanation...very soon mahanayake will be taken into custody..

    Monday, 15 February 2010 01:36 PM

No the computers from India have spoken.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 01:23 PM

Very good move. Government must act fast. The most venerable Mahanayaka's will listen. Probably they are being misled by some powerful forces. Fair trial must be guaranteed to the general. There is more than one charge. Let the due process takes its place. Innocence can be proved in a court of law. We must respect our judicial system.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 01:00 PM

    Why only for Buddhist Monks...?
What about all the other kinds of Clergy ?

    Monday, 15 February 2010 09:24 AM

Too late. The damage is alredy done.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 11:23 AM

At present context Govt will even use their thugs to attack the 18th meeting. We have no law in our country and our leaders do not respect the Buddhist leaders.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 11:21 AM

Is it a delegation of Green Berets?

    Monday, 15 February 2010 11:01 AM

Their only religion is money & power.

    Monday, 15 February 2010 11:00 AM

    Monday, 15 February 2010 10:30 AM

Good that an explanation is given to Mahanayakas. Please ask hon.manayakas to get an assuarance from the General not to betray the country.
