Popular yesteryear actress Girly Gunawardane (77) passed away yesterday and the funeral will be held at the Borella General Cemetery today (12) at 5.30 pm. She is the mother of popular film star Sabeetha Perera and wife of the late actor/ director Stanley Perera.

Girly who was 77 at the time of her death, started acting in school plays at Girls High School, Mount Lavinia.

Her first public performance came in the stage play ‘Dompe Aya’ after which she took part in a dance sequence in the movie Prema Tharangaya in 1953.

Later she acted in films like Puduma Leli, Saradiel, Duppathage Duka, Ganthera, Chandali, Sasaraka Heti, La Dalu, Hathara Maha Nidhanaya, Soduru Yuwala, Hathara Kendare, Dewena Pipasaya, Tom Pachaya and other movies. She last acted in Ahas Maliga in 1994.

Her remains now lie at No. 286, Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte.
