The Consumer Affairs Authority yesterday said it would consider the requests by the two leading LP gas companies for the increase of gas prices soon.

CAA Chief Rumy Marzook said the matter was being discussed now and the new prices would be gazetted when the matter was finalized.

In the wake of fuel price hikes last month Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando said gas companies would not be permitted to increase prices saying the people should not be burdened any further.

However Laugfs and Litro had requested the CAA to increase the price of a 12.3kg gas cylinder by Rs.209 and Rs.175 respectively. (Olindhi Jayasundere)

Rupee devaluing might also adversely effect this. No wonder people are on strike. First step should be to eliminate corruption and save money. If politicians are not interested in changing their luxurious lifestyles and giving up wasting, people might not be interested in what they tell. Geneva scenario might not be the next most devastating thing for the common man,

We were only awaiting the outcome of the Geneva vote. Not only gas but also milk powder and maybe another increase on fuel etc. Now that the US Resolution is out of the way, sky is the limit!!!

    DeSilva Friday, 23 March 2012 01:00 AM

UN has passed the resolution. Till yesterday we had the rights to to protest. Now we can't protest to show our displeasure for this unacceptable increase.

It is not up to the Gas companies to bring down the cost of living but the duty of the government. The same logic why petrol/Diesel prices went up will apply for gas. What do you think will happen when the dollar reaches 140 mark against the rupee?

KEEP UP THIS INCREASE - GOOD MOVE

Its ok..We are patriotic.. So we don't mind any price hikes anymore..Just now our only concern is the UN resolution and that will be our one and only worry, for weeks to come, if not months.

These price hikes and the rates of such hikes are unbearable to all the people. Its worst hit for the Salary earners. bcos the businessmen can pass such irncreses back to the consumer with out any loss to them. GOSL is fooling people saying one thing and doing another. politkos, remember, people are not fools...but peace loving but there is a limit to any thing.
