The Galle road has been closed for traffic from Kollupitiya junction to Galle Face due to a protest march by Buddhist monks of the Sihala Ravaya, police said.

The protestors demanded not to send the body of the self-immolated monk Ven. Bowatte Indraratana Thera to his home town in Ratnapura.

Meanwhile, anti-riot squad personnel equipped with water cannon have been called into the area.
