Defeated Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama is aiming for a post in the government despite failing to secure a seat in parliament at the recent General Elections, government sources told Daily Mirror online

While the tussle for his former post continues among several key government members who made it into parliament, Bogollagama, according to government sources is keen to remain in politics by either vying for a deputy minister post or one of a lesser authority.

Meanwhile President Mahinda Rajapakse is expected to have meetings with his potential cabinet prior to their formal appointment next week, sources said.

Sources added that the President has unofficially decided on who he is going to select in his new cabinet but will refrain from divulging the names till an official announcement is made.

General Secretary of the SLFP, Maithripala Sirisena said that the President is expected to gazette the names of his new ministers on April 21 and the new cabinet will take oaths between April 22 and 23. (Daily Mirror online)

It is surprising that Bogollagama did not get a place from Colombo - when a personality like Weerawansa polled the highest number of votes - and in Colombo Weerawansa is like a fish out of water - a square peg in a round hole.

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 05:33 PM

THE PRESIDENT IS NOT STUPID TO APPOINT YOU TO PARLIAMENT ...

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 05:43 PM

How can he become a Deputy Minister when he has lost the 'manape'?

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:03 PM

The people have given a clear verdict and the government should respect it!

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:13 PM

This result reflects his performance as the FM. Goodbye!

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:15 PM

Candidates are defeated for good reason. Some were defeated particularly because of their lavish misuse of government funds. Time and time again, this has been highlighted in the media.

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:36 PM

I bet that it was quite a shock to this guy to lose the election. How will he travel the world in luxurious comfort now?

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:48 PM

You should be ashamed to ask for any position in the new government.

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:52 PM

Mr. B., we don't need people like you - the people have spoken.

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 06:53 PM

    Friday, 16 April 2010 07:36 AM

I am sure if Madam Bogollagama contested she would have won - all the qualifications the UPFA contestants have is brawn - which Mr Bogollagama lacks. He is not a thug.

    Friday, 16 April 2010 07:46 AM

People hav spoken loud and clear. Your Excellency, Lalith weeratunga, Gamini Senerath and Sajin, Never again. We all luv Lanka More than ever. Delhi Denied VIP lounge and BIA denied the same to his doughter showing him the due place yesterday. Lets follow suit.

    Friday, 16 April 2010 07:57 AM

    Hello Bogollagama,
he was on expensive foreign tours with the family, while other candidates for election were learning gimmic to obtain Manape.that's where he failed.best thing is to go to your countryside(Nikaweratiya where you originally come from)and learn politics from the grassroot level and learn election gimmic. stop expensive foreign tours and stop begging job from UN.

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 08:15 PM

He traveled for more than 9 months, in a year, achieving nothing. ... Let him rest now, at home.

    Friday, 16 April 2010 07:59 AM

    he is a dude

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 08:57 PM

This guy is a total 'rip-off' to our economy. He carts his whole brood, on tax-payers money, and what good has it done for our country?

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 08:59 PM

Mate, the SL people don't want you, so just accept it and stay away. You have made a fortune anyway. Still greedy for more? It is sad that you are unemployed - why not ask for a job at the UN?

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 10:44 PM

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 10:54 PM

    'Thank you,' for nothing!

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 11:55 AM

I am sure he can be accommodated by the government, if not immediately, then in some months' time. After all, this is Sri Lanka we're talking about remember!

    Thursday, 15 April 2010 11:56 AM
