The Hurulu forest reserve fire which affected more than 2000 acres of protected land was brought under control by early this morning and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, officials of the Department of Forest Conservation said.
It is suspected that illegal hunters may have been involved in igniting the fire which raged from yesterday afternoon and spread rapidly. The fire was finally brought under control with the assistance of Air Force helicopters, Army personnel and the Civil Defence personnel. (Daily Mirror online)

Not only the hunters but also the tree burglars fire the jungle. Once when I was traveling to Ritigala, I found much the same scene where burglars had cut some valuable tree, and then set the area on fire, so that any investigation will be held in abeyance without evidences. I was not allowed to take photos, and was threatened to leave the place asap. I complained to the police, but no idea what happened thereafter. Attention in demand...
