General Sarath Fonseka has submitted an application to Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka seeking to form his own party under the name ‘Democratic People’s Alliance with Tiran Alles as the General Secretary.

The new party will be part of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) headed by General Fonseka which also includes the JVP.

Currently Fonseka does not have his own political party although he heads the Alliance. (Daily Mirror online)

If he really cares for Sri Lanka , he should disown his US green card and should retain his Sri Lankan citizenship till the end.

    Tissamaharama Wednesday, 30 June 2010 11:13 AM

When will the new party release their manifesto? A lot depends on their approach to the national issues, not least among them being the minority grievences

    sambaata Wednesday, 30 June 2010 07:32 PM

Good move - to stay away from the JVP!

    Malin Thursday, 01 July 2010 04:49 AM

You undisputed coz you got just 98k votes. Very undisputed indeed.

    Ind Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:20 AM

I bet nobody in this forum who supports him, will vote for him. They only use him as a tool to make the government unfomfortable.

    RajasH Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:21 AM

hope this is an inclusive party accomodating all minorities

    MaPer Thursday, 01 July 2010 05:43 AM

I think he will get a better acceptance without the JVP as many government servants and services personnel in particular remember how many of them were assassinated and died on burning tyres in the 1988/89 era. Also, Arjuna & Tiran Alles (particularly his father R.I>T. Alles) are very respected citizens.

Nishantha Rajapakse Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:25 AM

here we go! lets get into business General..all the best sir! We are with you!

    jay Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:32 AM

    Gunda Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:34 AM

A wise move as the first step. Now control your mouth and what you say...

    Gyan Wednesday, 30 June 2010 09:39 AM

The great sinhala saying ' swapping the pillow to alleviate
the headache'. Don't you realize your party is over ?

    Wasantha Wednesday, 30 June 2010 01:40 PM

There are enough political parties in Sri Lanka to devide people but not to serve.

    Monara Wednesday, 30 June 2010 10:06 AM

    Well said!

Nalaka Herath Wednesday, 30 June 2010 10:28 AM

A very good move for the sake of our beloved country. This will further dilute the power of opposition and ensure the continuous UPFA governments!

    Hassen Wednesday, 30 June 2010 10:29 AM

    We salute you Sir,
You are our only undisputed leader
All the best for you and for all Sri Lankans.
