General Sarath Fonseka was charged at the Colombo Magistrates Court today for harboring army deserters just prior to the Presidential Elections last January. His media secretary Senaka Silva was also charged. (TFT)

How about the politicians and even the former Presidents
harbouring criminals,drug dealers ,murderers???
malkanthi Monday, 02 August 2010 06:30 AM
Well done, whack him every possible way in order to prevent any threats to the political dynasty in sri lanka!!!!
Neil Monday, 02 August 2010 06:33 AM
Its people like you who are responsible for the undemocratic state in Sri Lanka.
citizen1 Monday, 02 August 2010 06:44 AM
Hello?? What about charges against KP? Didn't he go against the country? Why are they picking on bogus and trivial matters while allowing mass murderers to walk free? This is lunacy of the first order!
ami Monday, 02 August 2010 06:49 AM
whatever said and done...let's not forget the fact that he was our commander who spear headed the battle successfully ! As a nation we owe him so much !
MK Monday, 02 August 2010 07:28 AM
This is the 'unbelievable change' that was going to come to Sri Lanka! Im glad that people of this nation had eyes to see at the last two elections!
AMICUS Monday, 02 August 2010 07:29 AM
LOOKS LIKE HE HAS SOME MAGNETISM TO ATTRACT INDICTMENTS AGAINST HIMSELF !
francis Monday, 02 August 2010 07:32 AM
General Fonseka will enter the Guiness book of world record as the person who faced highest number of charges within a short period of 12 months.
AJ - COLOMBO Monday, 02 August 2010 08:27 AM
How about MR & GR habouring KP? Which court will charge this case?
Ruwan Ferdinandez Monday, 02 August 2010 08:28 AM
The law is the same for everybody. Fonseka did a great job in the war but employing deserters is illegal and he clearly disobeyed the law. So let the court decide on him.
Nandimithra Monday, 02 August 2010 06:27 AM
Not the country first but Law No. 1 is don't go against Rajapakses.
malkanthi Monday, 02 August 2010 09:18 AM
People of this nation have eyes, but no guts for a outcry!!! what's the point?????
V Andrew Monday, 02 August 2010 09:30 AM
Agreed. The problem is that the Gen., who was loved by all Sri Lankans, irrespective of party differences, lost the respect by aligning himself with losers. However, whatever the differences we have with the Gen., we should be decent in our criticisms and show some respect to him for giving leadership to the Army in its campaign against LTTE.
Siri Herath Monday, 02 August 2010 12:27 PM
kiri: well said! and Fonseka, thank you for taking minor injuries to your abdomen like a true soldier and winning the freedom for us. But sorry, you are no use to us Sri Lankans now.
Siri Herath Monday, 02 August 2010 12:31 PM
Sarath showed you, me, Mahinda and goata how to put country first by facing bombs and having to depend on medical attn permanently. None of us did that.
Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 02 August 2010 01:27 PM
So that means the law is not applicable when it comes to government party politicians who harbour criminals, underworld thugs, murderers and terrorists.
Musthafa Monday, 02 August 2010 01:52 PM
Crime is Crime- who ever did it, he must be charged and jailed for it
RZM Monday, 02 August 2010 04:19 PM
Pathetic state of affairs!
Concerned Citizen Monday, 02 August 2010 05:24 PM
Whatever anyone might say, Sarath Fonseka has given a lot to this country and has more to give, in the future, if he is allowed to do so.
DDJ Monday, 02 August 2010 06:04 AM
Strange destiny. Trying to frame the real hero and his relatives in every way. Terrorists are pardonable but not the General of a legitimate army.Biggest political misconduct in the world.
arshad Monday, 02 August 2010 05:15 AM
Wait and see for the final Judgement.
Nawa Venasa Monday, 02 August 2010 05:16 AM
Dear Fonseka
one day even your JVP MP's too would not be able to rescue you.
Gunawathie Monday, 02 August 2010 05:25 AM
What about our other Ministers and MPs who are harbouring criminals and thugs, over to you authorities.
rosh Monday, 02 August 2010 05:26 AM
Dont be a laughing stock. Govt has nothing to do with implementing law as legislation & the rest of enforcing agencys or entities are clearly seperated by the constitution
Farshard Monday, 02 August 2010 05:37 AM
Unbelievable.....
bugger Monday, 02 August 2010 05:41 AM
Seems like even if he passes gas there will be a charge against him.
Jayamanna Monday, 02 August 2010 05:44 AM
"Goverment has nothing to do...", Are you living in Sri Lanka or elsewhere?.
smith saudi arabia Monday, 02 August 2010 05:55 AM
This case will go to the 2010 guiness record.........
eddy Monday, 02 August 2010 05:56 AM
Always learn to put country first, than oneself. Sarath has learnt a lesson, so did the ltte.
mohamed Monday, 02 August 2010 05:11 AM
is this true?, because every law and order are set by the ruling government....what the government says others have to obey and act acccordingly.......Let the people decide on this....
Just Another Citizen Monday, 02 August 2010 06:06 AM
So why be charged now? The Army could have taken action at the time if they knew this to be true?
MLJ Monday, 02 August 2010 06:12 AM
Those who wish to criticize the General please do so with dignity. Do not forget that he spearheaded the thrust to free this country from Terrorism.
Nishantha Rajapakse Monday, 02 August 2010 06:17 AM
the amount you charge off General Fonseka... you will be begging for in this same life of yours. shame on you GOSL.you are pathetic!
Roshan Monday, 02 August 2010 06:18 AM
The War Heros are not the soldiers who fought the war but the people who were inside the A/C room and the Politicians.
kiri Monday, 02 August 2010 06:18 AM

don Monday, 02 August 2010 06:24 AM

mohammed Monday, 02 August 2010 06:26 AM
