    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:15 AM

WHAT WE SEE IS THAT PRESIDENT WANTS SF TO ASK FOR PARDON FROM HIM. THIS IS LIKE RUBBING MR EGO ALL THIS MADNESS IS LEADING TO GET SF TO BEG FOR MERCY FROM PRESIDENT AS NOW IT SEEMS THEY CANT EVEN DECIDE ON A COURT MARTIIAL. AS PER EMMERGENCY LAWS NO ONE CAN BE DETAINED MOR THAN 7 DAYS WITHOUT ANY CHARGES RAISED ON THE PERSON IT IS A HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATION. CAN YOU GET LOST SORRY G.L PEIRIS UNDERSTAND THE INTERNATIONAL LAW. YOU GUYS HAVE RUINED THE COUNTRY DONT REUIN OUR LIVES AND THE FUTURE OF OUR SUBBLING MORE. THE ONLY WAY OUT IS THAT US WILL HAVE TO INTERFERE THIS IS THE ONKY WAY . SL ALREADY LOST GSP THIS WILL RESULT IN MORE GARMENT WORKERS BEING LAID OFF AND THIS WILL CUASE FRUSTRATION TO THE UNEMPLOYED PEOPLE WHO THEN WILL CARRY THEIR MERCY TO THE GOVERNEMNT

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:19 AM

    WHY, GOT COLD FEET ?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:21 AM

so the judgment is already finalized, even before the trail. This minister who crossed over talks as if he was born in a pool of blue ink

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:24 AM

All service men including Army, Navy and Airforce are humans as everyone. When they are retired, they are no longer subjected to any service law. Think logically. What is the state of service men? Are they prisoners? What is the fundamental rights such as freedom of expression.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:31 AM

    Dear Professor GL Peries.
Your service was immense when you performed as a distinguished legal luminary at the University of Colombo. But as a Politician you didn't materialize your extraordinary intelligence to build 'democratic values' specially within your political platform.
Then as a Minister you didn't achieve anything of significance to prosper our people and in fact partly you were responsible for not getting this GSP+ facility.
Now you simply try to elaborate legal implications on Opposition candidate's lawful rights without bringing formal charges on him.
Dear Sir, by the name of all mighty god, Please do something or take measures to implement law and order in this country, introduce valuable reforms to prosper our people and try to convince your colleagues to behave in a manner where everybody can express their views.
That's what Mr Manmahon Singh is doing to India and as a result all level of population enjoy the fruits of the Indian growth.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:40 AM

Is he suggesting as a prelude to the impending outcome of the FR rights petition files by General’s wife at the Supreme Court? If the alleged charges are factual, the normal civil procedure could have been followed, with transparency and authenticity. Under Martial-Law the civil procedure is not followed and thereby case may be concluded within 3 to 6 months, I presume. Any way it seems that government has got hold of the Tiger by the tail !!

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:42 AM

well well, I just read about "A UN envoy seeking to end Burma's bloody crackdown meets the opposition's Aung San Suu Kyi and top generals". A SL version on this one day soon would be "A UN envoy seeking to end Sri Lanka's crackdown meets the opposition's General and top gov officials. :) equalizing Aung San Suu Kyi to SF and SL officials to Burmise generals. Surely SL is much more democratic than Burma, however an unnecessary hate-mongering road map on the creation now in SL due to this worst ever handling of the SF issue. GL has no vision in this.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:55 AM

So a person can appeal under martial law.. ? GL, don't do bull shit work man. If that is possible, why couldn't you arrest him and brought to a Civil court at first place ?
Do you think majority are fools ?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:00 AM

he will be released just before the elections but after the finalization of nominations... meantime i was wondering what happened to the 30 million ransom case involving wimal, muzamil & the opposition, not a word uttered after the elections.. what real jokers are they? they simply think that all sri lankans are idiotic fools?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:05 AM

if u do not know the law, u better learned it first :p

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:07 AM

Everybody should be equal before the law and order. Some people speak without knowledge of the Army Act. Some people in rural areas still say that if MR SF won the presidential election, there would have been scores of killing. Some SF's supporters have prepared lists of UPFA supporters who should be eliminated. This is the truth in villages.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:08 AM

Fellow citizens 77 million rupees given by his daughter no General makes that kind of money legally - Sarath Fonseka is no saint neither is Mahinda Rajapakse - we need some new selfless fresh leadership - do not let all the current bunch of crooks fool you - sadly we maybe waiting forever.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:10 AM

Sadly Dayan when they become politicians and gain power all the values they held dear before and all they stood for goes flying out of the window and all that is left is opening their pockets to our wealth. This not juts GL but all the current politicos who have tasted power.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:11 AM

Get lost GL. A person of yr caliber assisting this government in exercising undemocratic acts would make yr esteemed mother & grandparents just turn in their graves. The whole world except of cos china iran libya venezuela etc is appalled at general fonseka being hauled before a military court.instead of a civilian court where he can expect transparency & fair trial.
A learned person such as u aiding and abetting this infamous act is reprehensible . U deserve to be hit with rotten eggs

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:13 AM

Actually Mr.Minority he was he cut his teeth with Chandrika and then started pole vaulting for power - sad sad man. Once respected now just one in a bunch of clowns.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:07 AM

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 10:55 AM

This GLP is a man appeared from List... people of this country never selected you..So please go back to University and start teaching

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 11:14 AM

G.L.Peiris is an academic but he is not a qualified lawyer. So we don't have to take legal advice from him.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 11:17 AM

SF NEED NOT GO TP " APPEAL COURT " AS HE IS NOT AN OFFENDER. RELEASE HIM FORTHWITH

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 11:17 AM

kavin gunaratne So why not take legal action if MR regime has the list. I feel so sorry for you.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 11:42 AM

He said he can sue EU for GSP+ so now what - is he suing them? - for him as past Prof of Law everything is courts or law but he cannot ensure law and order in Sri Lanka.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 12:02 PM

thank you Prof for your kind advice given. All this time SF and his lawyers did not know that they can appeal. Thank you for the tip.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 12:20 PM

I thought he was "arrested" under military law

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 01:43 PM

I have been under the impression that Prof. G.L.Pieris, is a smart person; but not any more.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 01:46 PM

Law and Order In the country:
    Change the constitution as follows
    1. No one can arrest SF or his Family members
    2. If the wife of an offender cry in TV release him.
    3. If JVP protest do as they say.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 06:50 PM

    What happened to this GL?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:50 PM

The 'profesorry' Peiris is talking about 'appeal,' when the General has still not been made aware of what the charges are. 'Profesorry' Peirs is like 'a chinese in a bullshop' when it comes to legal affairs!

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 11:20 PM

This court-martial will never come to sit ... as per the Army Act, a time-bar applies. Perhaps if they find any proof, they could file a civil suit. The 'coup story' is also being discarded, due to an 'obvious' lack of evidence ...

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:48 AM

WHAT EVER YOU DO.YOU KNOW SF HAS GAINED BY THIS THAN LOST.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 06:58 AM

and now the rock starts to melt,as the International heat is too much to bear up... good news.. keep the pressure on

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 06:58 AM

Yes ,should be like that.(give chance to go an appeal court)

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:09 AM

Dear Sir, We have more important issue that is to file a case against EU for GSP facility. Please do not spend your valuable time on minor matters.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:13 AM

    Well Done Prof.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:15 AM

People still say government is not transparent...... Have this guy’s ever see one good this government does......?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:19 AM

Obviously he is not satisfied with Court Martial proceedings. So if its possible for Fonseka to seek redress at an Appeals Court why dont they release him from military imprisonment?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:27 AM

Appeal for what ? Has GLP totally lost his senses?

Have the Courts and the Government already decided SF is guilty even without hearing Case?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:28 AM

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:30 AM

why are our ministers late in everything?

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:30 AM

    Good news....

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:31 AM

I think now they are going to move the case simply to Civil Courts on his appeal & without any blame form the public. Cunning people....

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:35 AM

You mean him to appeal? Why not release if you jokers can't prove him guilty? GOVT. JOKE OF THE DAY!

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:43 AM

IF HE CAN APPEAL ,WHY CAN`T YOU REALSE HIM.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:46 AM

THE WHOLE COUNTRY KNOWS WHAT`S GOING ON.SUPRESSING AND BUYING IS THE NAME OF THE GAME.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 06:57 AM

Please investigate and punish if he is guilty. No one should be above the law of land but fair trial should be there. I hope he will get a fair trial.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:53 AM

    Jayaweva change of heart

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 07:58 AM

The learned Professor seems to be knowing the outcome well in advance!

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:00 AM

Now opposition will clash....................... because of SF's nomination...............

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:14 AM

This is the supreme democracy we maintain in Sri Lanka

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:49 AM

This statement says a lot about behind the scene international pressure.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:50 AM

he should be released soon. this is one of the worse thing MR has done to his good name. he need some good advisors.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:52 AM

Finally something happens according to the law,

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:52 AM

    Professor has realised the blunder.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 08:57 AM

I am of the view that the anybody does not want any Legal advise from other side of a case.

    Thursday, 18 February 2010 09:05 AM

you know what profesoori... it'll serve the public pretty much if you disclose what we dont know... heh...
