Fonseka attends Parliament

Detained former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka is attending the inaugural session of the seventh Parliament. Fonseka was reportedly driven to Parliament under tight security.

He was elected to the new Parliament at the recent General Elections. Fonseka is being probed over an alleged illegal arms deal and other allegations.

Speaking in Parliament the General said that he was being detained undemocratically and urged the Speaker to intervene in his matter.

This is not about showing MR's leadership or mighty power. It is a fundamental right within democratic framework to allow a member elected by voters to be sworn in and continue to practice as a Member of Parliament. Do not think MR could have deprived General SF of that. If you do not know that few years ago India allowed ‘bandit queen’ Poolan Devi to enter into and function as a Member of Parliament while she was serving in the prison.
