democratic wish of 4.2 million is humiliated by power crazy 1.8 million autocrats.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:43 PM

I AM SURE INDIA IS BEHIND THIS ARREST.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:43 PM

Does that include the Rajapaksa's Weerawansa, Mervin, and about a thousand others. Sri Lanka is now a banana republic ! Advice to all bright young people - EMIGRATE ! Regret that I did not go through with this when I was young and had the chance. This country has nothing to offer you or your off spring now.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:47 PM

No MR. sarath. He is not a war here (anymore). If you have any doubt, just ask from Ranil, or Sambanthan is he a war hero. Ranil clearly said that he just do the part which he was asigned to do. And the results of N&E results too shows who is the war hero.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:47 PM

Poor rushan, you do not seem to understand what's happening around. You also seem to be blind with your political ideologies. This war hero was the best Army Commander in the world an year ago according to MR and the government circles.Even the entire countrymen sincerely trust that this is the man who engineered the ultimate fall of LTTE. Now all of a sudden he has become a traitor. For what sin? The only crime he committed was coming forward as a candidate against MR. Why? haven't Sri Lankans the right to contest an election. These are clear actions of revenge. We should pity ourselves for having been lived to witness all these stupid doings.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:48 PM

What a shame on you. Asoka, don't become a Gonsoka by comenting in this manner.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:48 PM

Once upon a time in the kingdom of far-faraway there was war. After 30 yrs of fighting, the king at time and war heroes who fought the war were able to finish it by killing the leaders who lead the rebellion. But the other kingdoms around the world blamed the kingdom of far-faraway for war crimes. But the very kind and sensitive king of that kingdom who doesn’t even know the meaning of hatred speaking to his countrymen while beating his chest with his hands said “if anyone wants to punish the great heroes of our country, that it will only happen over my dead body”. The countrymen were very delighted and hailed the king as god in disguise. The funny thing is that person who led the rebellion against this kingdom once said that the majority of that kingdom remembers things only for two weeks. After reading this news article I can’t understand whether that fairytale is actually a fairytale or is it a true story.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:49 PM

Indeed yes, we are waiting for that moment to come. May Almighty help our country.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:50 PM

He deserves it. People should understand. Ranil surely is thriving on this. Happy valentines for Ranil.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:50 PM

Don't become a fool of yourself, at the first instance, before casting remarks on others.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:53 PM

Who told you Indian president or prime minister

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:55 PM

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:14 PM

    deserves it

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:26 PM

This is dirty politics. All the unpopular politicians got together and put a Heroic General in politics. Like Humpty Dumpty, but no one can save him or put him together again. Every minute a sucker is born. It takes so many years to be a General, and in politics it take only one election to down a General to save face for the politicians. We need a truthful and credible Opposition.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:40 PM

Fonseka undoubtedly is honest and speaks the truth. It is MR,his brothers and some of their supporters with blinkers are corrupt dishonest, selfish and a disgrace to Sri lanka.True Sri Lankans should rally behind the general.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:38 PM

then he was the war hero . he is only HERO. now retired the government has no right to arrest him under the ARMY LAW.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:40 PM

Attest is illegal even a simple is law is ignorance by the government. the secretary of defence is only JSC passed.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:48 PM

No one is surprised. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Sri Lanka is going the way of Burma and other failed States. If they continue with this charade, Sri Lanka too wound end up a pariah state in the world community. We are becoming the laughing stock already. Dr. MR should take note.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:50 PM

People like Wara, who try to defend each and every dirty act of this government should remember the saying : ... and then they came for me and there was noone to speak on my behalf".

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:50 PM

sarath fonseka did not divide the nation.....our stupid politician did

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 04:55 PM

In the Banana republic of SriLlanka - funny things are happening. Then again these things happen only in Banana republics and not in true democracies.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:11 PM

Lets not jump the gun and look at it emotionally. Interest of the Country comes first. Everybody is answerable to the law.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 10:37 AM

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:03 PM

no my friend.all depends on how u behave. ya he was a great general when he was in army. But he became stupid politician who would say anything to gain power.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:04 PM

whats important to know is not who is supportng whom or what as it is not us who personaly benefit or not from these politicians, what we need to remember is that we have gone to the lowest of depths in our history. we have reached the lowest that we can and we must remember that there are many negative sayings about or society such as how un united we are and that we forget in 2 weeks. what a sick bunch of people we are, 6 months a go we are united in defeating a terrorist outfit and the leaders of the military are obvious heroes. 6 months after half of the country calls him and treats him like an animal, what are we? what are our values? who is responsible for what we think and how the country is now? over to you srilankans, do we have real indipendance, are we proud sri lankans

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:05 PM

He downgraded himself from "NATIONAL HERO" to "NATIONAL CURSE" with his Foul-mouthed Unpatriotic remarks

This is a low act by the government and Sri Lankan continues to be a banana republic - Go Mahinda go

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:17 PM

It is unbelievable that in a land where teachings of Lord Buddah are said to be deeply rooted in the hearts and minds of people, to treat a hero who almost lost his life for the sake of the country and liberated it just only recently in this despicable way

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:19 PM

What this country needs is a "Politico's Act" to take action against the corrupted Politicians as well.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:19 PM

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:20 PM

Very soon we will see act of god,it is shameful act from the government and the president of the country. This is not the way to treat General of the Army. It is a insult to our war heros.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:22 PM

Shame! Shame! Shame! on we Sri Lankans for allowing country to go this far. A very bad example for power greedy future generations.

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:24 PM

    Fonsekaphobia

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:26 PM

Yes, everyone must obey the law of god and man. This includes the Rajapakse brothers. They are not above the law. If SF is brought to courts for spilling the beans then why not the people who committed the grave human rights violations?

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:27 PM

Stop. Take a step back. Think. Why is everyone questioning his loyalty to the country. The country = people. So are the Tamils not Sri Lankans? So if he talks on behalf of a set of people then he is a traitor?

    Tuesday, 09 February 2010 12:40 PM

Yeah man. Stupid to you, only because he joined the opposition. He would have been still called a hero if he did not dare to go against the great Maharaja. What idiotic sorry leaders we have and what a sad country Sri Lanka is becoming!
