Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama alleged a sinister nexus seems to be surfacing between the JVP-UNP alliance and pro-LTTE groups abroad, which will be detrimental to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.

In a statement over the recent attempt to burn the Sri Lankan flag at the Sri Lankan High Commission in London, the Foreign Minister cautioned the Sri Lankan expatriates living overseas to be wary of the emerging nexus and extremists groups and ensure that they are not drawn into a trap by extending support to such groups.

Minister Bogollagama said the nexus between the JVP, UNP and LTTE is evident as supporters of the JVP, UNP and LTTE were involved in the attempt to burn the Sri Lankan flag at the Sri Lankan High Commission in London on Independence day.

British Police, who were deployed to the scene, promptly took action to prevent the flag from being destroyed or damaged and took one person into custody. Following this incident, the British Police also dispersed the other protesters immediately.  (Daily Mirror Online)

Do not warry FM. All such conspiracies will be defeated with the results of landslide victory to UPFA in the Parlimntary election. My prediction is 115 to 160 seats to UPFA and 40 to 50 seats for UNP (if they contest alone) JVP 01 (if they contest alone) rest of the seats for other parties.

    Monday, 08 February 2010 12:32 AM

The new found alliance may be trying their sheepish conduct to burn the Sri Lankan flag. It is questionable how they could be called patriotic citizens. Does this alliance worth a vote?

    Monday, 08 February 2010 12:32 AM

Mr Minister your govt is going to work with this so called pro LTTE proxies. ie TNA. Isnt that an evil act. Im pretty sure JVP and UNP will not burn the lion flag. Remem ber UNP was the main party behind getting independance. You need to learn the history.

    Monday, 08 February 2010 01:14 AM

As a responsible minister FM must divulge the evidence to the courts and take action. Or stop this mudslinging. Being in opposition does not make some one a nemesis of SL.

What FM said is right. It is rather an "axis of evil" is emerging from this new found alliance. I borrowed the phrase from Mr. George Bush. All Sri Lankans must take notice of it before it becomes a major threat to our existence. May be the grand old party is in the wrong track here.
