Afker Hussain Friday, 30 December 2011 02:08 PM
This beach boy menace should be eliminated for good otherwise tourist will just shun this country in the long term. These beach boys enjoy political patronage. Its high time that the Ministry defense takes action.

High time tourist police is strengthened and punishment severed for offences of this nature. Tourists should be provided with telephone numbers to call when is distress.

Negombo youth by the beach are world renowned for these crimes. it is time somebody take some serious action against them
Lanka Friday, 30 December 2011 04:54 PM
It is not only in SL. Where ever our Sri Lankan go they do not know how to behave.
citizen1 Friday, 30 December 2011 05:20 PM
This is the reality of our culture. The local girls probably put up with it. Consider even in buses how they harass women?

Sri Lanka has long ways to go in terms of development. This problem is nothing new..it's just being recognized more because tourists are filing complaints. What about those women (locals or foreigners) who are being harassed daily in public places like buses, shops, etc.? Are they doing something about that as well?
Nihal Kato Saturday, 31 December 2011 12:17 AM
The only practical way to prevent those degrading and highly costly to the country is to impliment the maximum punishment to those Wrong -Doers. To warrent this punishment new legislation will have to be urgently passed through the parliament. Recently there had been too many incidents with foreign tourists, severly damaging the image and reputation of the country. Could this be another manipulation of the Rump-LTTE or other anti-Govt. elements? CID must look in to this too.

Teens harassing women happen all the time in the streets of the west . Please do not sweep it under the carpet just for the sake of Tourism and money for this is bad for the tourist as well as the boys . Punish the bad behaviour as a deterrent . Some males walking on the road cast remarks even at Srilankan women if they are accompanied by a foreign looking male may be their partner . May be Srilanka is becoming another cheap Tourist destination .
Anil Saturday, 31 December 2011 12:20 AM
Protect not only the tourist, but the local school going / teenage girls. They are abused on a daily basis physically or by mere words and nothing is done. Please protect the vulnerable.
Lankikaya Saturday, 31 December 2011 06:37 AM
These youths probably thought they were welcoming the tourist, as demonstrated in the foreign films being produced nowadays.
sltk2004 Saturday, 31 December 2011 12:19 PM
Now someone will say this is due to a weak opposition...
Das Saturday, 31 December 2011 02:15 PM
This incident demonstrates the mindset of even school children now, which has been conditioned by knowing that many criminals get away without punishment, others are not indicted though guilty, and others have indictments against them withdrawn - by various means, including 'political'.
They also know that some tourists - male and female - come for a sexual 'fling' as part of the holiday. Our local gigolos fulfill this need - visit any tourist hotel and see the 'companions' picked up by tourists. The "beach boys" too fulfil this need. Sri Lanka is known as a pedophiles' paradise. Prostitution too, is well oganised.
Concerned Saturday, 31 December 2011 09:01 PM
Third world country, A level results? Lets wait for the new touirst visa fees, then see how many come.
The God Father Friday, 30 December 2011 11:46 AM
Legalize prostitution and everything will be normal.
Coconut Donkey Friday, 30 December 2011 10:42 AM
This is a disgraceful and disgustingly common occurrence that needs to be curbed to protect the tourism industry in the country!
Achari Friday, 30 December 2011 10:39 AM
What the hell is happening in this country. It seem that the Police are not vigilant at all. IGP should take immediate action if not NO TOURISTS will arrive here.

Looks like we have a lot of sexually frustrated teens in the society now. It is going to be a big problem in the near future
Automatic Friday, 30 December 2011 11:30 AM
These tourists also walk the beach with almost no clothes and make it difficult for the boys to concentrate on anything. Should look at both sides of the coin.

Banning porn sites was one of the most stupidest things to do. it wasn't harming anyone.
Dilanthi Friday, 30 December 2011 12:18 PM
If this continues soon we will have hardly any tourists coming to Sri Lanka. It is high time that we start police patrols on the beach not only to protect tourists but locals as well from this menace.
Akinahd Friday, 30 December 2011 12:19 PM
we should have a tourist police force for the safeguard of tourists, like in Egypt.

Legalize Prostitution. Simple as that. It will stop domestic violence, statutory rape, wife/children abuse etc. Prostitution is rampant in our dharmishta society. May as well legalize it and control it. It can be taxed to earn some money for the treasury as well.
lankanvoice Friday, 30 December 2011 01:21 PM
Sri Lankans prove their capability well.
