UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Tuesday emphasized the need to find a political solution in Sri Lanka without further delay to the underlying factors of the past conflict.

“The secretary-general noted the Sri Lankan government's latest efforts on accountability as well as the steady progress on resettlement issues,” the UN said issuing a statement after a meeting with visiting Sri Lankan Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe at the UN Headquarters in New York.

During their meeting “the two also discussed cooperation between the government of Sri Lanka and the United Nations in related areas and beyond, including on efforts to combat climate change.”

Meanwhile, during the daily news briefing by Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Martin Nesirky said that, the main focus was on the LLRC recommendations — the Lessons Learned Reconciliation Commission recommendations.

“The Sri Lankan Special Envoy was able to provide an update on how those recommendations are being implemented and the Secretary-General encouraged the Sri Lankan authorities to keep that momentum going,” Nesirky added.

What he is telling is true. Actually Sinhalese/Muslim must demand more rights in North. Tamils can travel, buy land from any part of the country and get good jobs(already having) if qualified anywhere in Sri Lanka. What else they want ?? Remember Majority of Tamils are living with Sinhalese without any issue. Only few who live with TNA in North thinks that they are under privileged as they were poisoned by LTTE and now it's being done by TNA.

Dear mr moon. enough talk, time to act and put the culprits behind bars. they still walk the streets freely. quite honestly you are starting to sound like a broken record now.

    RuwanL Wednesday, 17 October 2012 07:17 AM

As long as the Tamils try to find a solution only for themselves their problem will never be solved. The problem is they are only thinking of themselves and no one else! It will be quite difficult to come to a compromise by both parties after warring for over 30 years! The solution will only be possible if there is no "separate State" on the agenda!

Al Rasa Wednesday, 17 October 2012 04:17 AM

If re-settlement is done with more development of their livelihood,
elections are held with decentralization of authority by the process of Provincial Councils, If the representatives of Tamil ,Muslim,Sinhala communities are accommodated in the legislature (Parliament) If every one can move in the country freely what sort of political solution is sought. Is it an unofficial Elam with the concept of self determination?
