Saudi authorities will be urged to take action against the culprits responsible for inserting 23 nails in a Sri Lankan maid, the Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) Kingsley Ranawake told Daily Mirror online.
Speaking to Daily Mirror online, Ranawake explained that a translated statement from the victim will be sent to the Saudi authorities through the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry.
He added that the FEB condemned the abuse saying the behaviour of the Saudi employer is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. He added that the FEB will take the maximum necessary measures to ensure that the victim is compensated and justice served.
The victim had not informed her family about the incident and had instead told them that she had been abused with thorns from a date tree but after visiting a doctor and a specialist the story came to light, Ranawake said.
She is expected to undergo an operation on Thursday in order to remove the nails. (Daily Mirror online)

Voodoo, wizardry or witch craft or sorcery or black-magic practiced on this hoodwinking woman also should be investigated!

The Sri Lankan government cannot afford to make this a big issue! Foreign remittances, from maids in the Middle East, are a major source of income. When making a choice between money and human rights, the former always wins!

yes..its true...even india has stopped sending house maids to middle east....

Lasitha - What makes you think that the BBC & Al Jazeera knows anything about this incident? No one has reported this to the world press , so how could they even publish it.

Should impose a ban against the foreign employment as house maid. Should take strong actions against the employer & the agent who recruited from Sri Lanka.

This is really a pathetic incident. As human, we should try our level best to stop these sort of incidents happening in the future. The related foreign bureaus and agencies should be responsible and aware of this and should take necessary action to send SL labors to proper and secured places to work. Very rarely these kind of reports we hear through the media and investigation should be done exactly what is the fact behind this and must rationally take decisions on this. Where as majority of people have prospered in their lives going abroad. Specially, house maids should be given consideration about their working places before they are sent to middles east countries. SL embassies in middle east countries should urge their government authorities to punish over people who have involved in this brutal work.

There are more housemaids from the Philippines than from Sri Lanka. But rarely something like this happens to Phillipino housemaids. In case something like this happens their embassy officials go to courts, make the culprits pay the full damage, and blacklist the employer and his family from employing a Phillipino housemaid ever again. And they impose a much higher minimum wage and set strict limits with regard to working hours and day-off.

The entire World should be made aware of this cruel and inhuman act!
Kamiss Tuesday, 24 August 2010 10:44 PM
A mere "inquiry" by the Saudis' is not enough. What is needed is strong action against the criminals and adequate compensation for the poor victim. The government must even be prepared to raise the issue, at an international forum!

These animals must be punished! How can anyone do anything like this to a human being?

Are you guys going to forget this incident by tomorrow? We should fight against these types of crimes ...
Mathan Tuesday, 24 August 2010 07:37 PM
There won't be any action from Saudi. Most Islamic countries never care about Asian foreign workers and never appreciate their services!
Faqi Tuesday, 24 August 2010 06:39 PM
The Saudis will 'sweep this under the carpet' unless world-wide publicity is given to this barbarous act!
Mohamed Tuesday, 24 August 2010 06:37 PM
Height of torture! We should go and protest in front of the Saudi embassy!
Mahadanamutta Tuesday, 24 August 2010 06:36 PM
Nothing will happen! All we are after is the earnings these poor ladies bring to country. Sad!
