At least 4 explosion sounds were heard in Jaffna over the past half an hour early this morning, residents in Jaffna told Daily Mirror online. Defence sources said they believe the sounds emanated from devices used to create a large noise but not cause any damage.

Meanwhile military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakara said that a petrol bomb was thrown at one location in Jaffna but it did not cause any damage or casualties.

The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said that a grenade was thrown at the house of the SLFP Jaffna organizer in Udupiddy this morning. However no one injured in the incident.

Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu of the CMEV said the SLFP organizer had claimed that he had earlier observed people distributing leaflets calling for the election to be boycotted.

    bros, sist,
vote for SF and just get rid of this regime.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:51 AM

they wants the tamils to not vote like last time. So this is pathetic last minute stunt. Trying to frighten them into not voting. But these ppl have gone thru much & im sure they will be brave enough to vote. This type of blast will not deter them

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:54 AM

MR and his supporters should realize the disenfranchizment by UNP thugs in Jaffna local council polls in late 70s, caused in part for the Tamil youth to take up arms. That darstardly act fuelled the ethnic tensions. If that happens again, those who do that must be responsible for the next Tamil uprising in 30 years time. History has only to repeat. Don't do the same mistake twice. Voting is the ultimate right of the people.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:56 AM

    Final crackers !!!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:00 AM

Jaffna needs a peace atmosphere, allow them to live peacefully.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:00 AM

Gen SF, after the heroic victory, ceremonially silenced all guns directed towards the enemy. Therefore there is no need to sound them again as now there is no one to fight with.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:05 AM

Ha! Ha! Nothing can scare the people of Jaffna because they are used to such threats. Poor Goons!! You are all going to be frustrated. All in vain, Goons.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:07 AM

I hope the Jaffna man votes regardless. His/her vote counts and he/she should not be deterred by efforts to deny him/her the vote only to allow a particular candidate in Colombo to win the elections!

    God bless Sri Lanka.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:12 AM

The brothers and sisters in the North have seen and gone through much more than these 'pus wedillas'. They will certainly brave it ..

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:15 AM

PEOPLE OF THE NORTH & EAST CAST YOUR VOTES AT ANY COST, FOR A GLORIOUS FUTURE FOR YOUR FUTURE GENERATIONS. GOOD LUCK.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:20 AM

Last time money given to LTTE and Tamils to boycotted the election allowing for a fradulent win. This time, trying to scare the Jaffna voters with explosions. What desperation to extend family rule. By the way, wonder why Louisa did not name her favourite as the winner and stays neutral saying may the best man win! Is it premonition?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:22 AM

Well if it was ltte who is behind ? They shoul have tried when MR N SF went to jaffna for campeigne ! Here the idia is keep tamils away from polls ! Is this is what gosl claimed as 30 year victory ? Shame on u ?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:23 AM

    Another third class activity

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:38 AM

Rajapakse's clan is innovative. 100% for innovativeness.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:38 AM

Only SF can control the situation.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:21 AM

Piyal just feel your head and see whether you have horns. It is the Govt LTTE operating there. SF is capable of eradicating them too.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:22 AM

This is the last chance....last moment...its the final countdown.....people of sri lanka brace yourself.....stand against all odds.....stand for your right.......to make a believable difference....we have suffered enough....time to end the grey chapter of this nation..new beginning...Your vote worth more than money....Vote for the leader who stood on his own blood to serve the nation.....let their be no difference in Race or colour we are all humans and we need a change....The change has come...Vote for General Sarath Fonseka......

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:33 AM

As usual state terrorist are in action. This time as in the past can't put the blame on LTTE.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:50 AM

Arosha, tamil youth took up arms because of the turncoat christian who became a "chauvinistic buddhist leader - SWRD Bandaranayake" did not recognise the tamil rights when he decided to tear up the PACT with Chelvanayagam due to pressure from the Saffron robed. It is ironical that SWRD was indeed a UNP stalwart at one time. Anyway, Sri Lanka needs a better leader .

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:53 AM

"MARA CHINTHANAYA "EXPLODED TO SCARE THE TAMILS FROM GOING OUT TO VOTE...TAMIL BROTHERS,DON'T STOP..VOTE .JAYAWEWA..

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 04:58 AM

It means the LTTE is stil active and the Government claim of ending terrorism is wrong.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:00 AM

where is democracy? Tamils wants freedom.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:02 AM

yet another hooligan act by usual robbers.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:07 AM

Tamils want a free and fair eletion,Tamil definetly vote for SF

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:18 AM

WHAT HAVEN`T THEY TRIED THIS TIME, SHAME.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 05:29 AM

Never you all think the rality ,you all communal minded ,and spoon fed by the politicians who use you all for their success,I feel soorry for you ,pity fellow

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:08 PM

now people can understand why jaffna DIG was transferred to colombo.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:27 AM

As expected from MR, but there is no way he can stop the wave. We will have regime change today, come what may

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:39 AM

Looks like you are in early. Have a safe election day and may the best person win.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:44 AM

Here we go. MR's goons are trying to scare the Jaffna voters and deny SF the 200,000 majority expected in the Jaffna district. Pray to God the Jaffna brethren will be strong enough to overcome fear and vote for SF today..

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:49 AM

Bit fishy on the election day morning ! May be trying to keep the votes out of the poling booths creating panic. Rigging Strategy ??????

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:51 AM

What happened in 2005 by paying the LTTE, is been trying to do on his own and save that money. I really hope the tamils go out and vote.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:01 AM

This is how the foundation for another uprising in future is being laid by preventing innocent people living in North of their right to vote.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:02 AM

it seems LTTE is active again

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:09 AM

Looks like LTTE sympathisers are trying to freighten the Tamil voters so that they do not go to cast their vote. Same old game. Tamils need peace too. Let them live peacefully with Sinhalese brothren.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:10 AM

So called Chinthanaya must be exploding.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:14 AM

Some Ministers Now Have... "Explosive Diarrhoea !."

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:26 AM

People of Jaffna are more than used to bombs and shells. Sure they will vote without fear, unless the MR and clan do not prohibit this by not delivering the polling cards.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:27 AM

There it goes, the first tactic to create fear psychosis in Tamil people. These are well planned tactics. There will be so many to follow elsewhere in the country as well during the course of the day. May Democracy be saved in the country.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:27 AM

Well.... all sane thinking people know why this is for,I hope the tamils will not fear this as they are used to these noises for the last so many years,I hope also that they go out and vote for the next president God bless Srilanka

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:34 AM

Obviously the Govt goons are trying to 'defranchise' the Jaffna public, by scaring them off! Hope they will brave it & go to poll!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:28 AM

is this the kind of democracy that is being parcticed??.it is proclaimed to the world to have a free and fair elections, and then bombs are exploded.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:30 AM

    Hook or crook.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:34 AM

Some of the parties does not like to allow TAMILS to participate in this elections.WHY? TAMIL'S votes will be the deciding FACTOR?WHERE IS DEMOCARACY?

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:47 AM

DEFENCE SOURCES EXPLODED TO SCARE THE TAMILS FROM GOING OUT TO VOTE.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:55 AM

Very Last time effort! But the people of jaffna should not worry ! They know who does not want them to vote this time too!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 01:58 AM

Another Tactic of Mr Mahinda to win the election. The Tamil Population will never get carried away to such low gimmicks

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:06 AM

This does it! I was going to boycott the election, but not now, not after this!!!

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:10 AM

This is required as this time Emil Kanthan can't stop voting tamils.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:10 AM

The voters should realize what this govt is upto. This is not the time for apathy, get out and vote for sempathi.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:12 AM

TAMILS! DON'T WORRY. THIS IS ALL GOVT. NOISE IN A LAST DITCH EFFORT TO SCARE YOU ALL. GO OUT AND VOTE FOR THE RIGHT MAN.

    Tuesday, 26 January 2010 02:23 AM
