The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize for its long-term role in uniting the continent, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said on Friday, an award seen as morale boost for the bloc as it struggles to resolve its debt crisis.

The committee praised the 27-nation EU for rebuilding after World War Two and for its role in spreading stability to former communist countries after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall.

The prize, worth $1.2 million, will be presented in Oslo on December 10. (Reuters)

This is nothing to be proud of. After all, they gave the Peace Award to Obama after 9 months in office but still conducting at least two wars and also continuing to imprison foreigners at Guantanamo for years without charge. It is also worth remembering that Mahatma Gandhi was never even considered for a Peace Award from these people.

Poor Alfred Nobel turned in his grave last year when it was awarded to Obama. This year poor Alfred will be Churning in his grave. what an ignominy this is for the people of Europe! Then again, why not award a person or entity when its a live than DEAD. Peace be upon you EU.
