The former Norwegian Minister Eric Solheim, who acted as the peace facilitator between the government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE at that time, shared his experience in engaging the Diaspora at a meeting in London, Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera said in Parliament.
Mr. Solheim acted as the peace mediator between the government and the LTTE mainly during the 2002 / 2004 period. He was a witness to the several rounds of peace negotiations between the two sides.
Mr. Samaraweera said in a statement in Parliament last Friday that Mr. Solheim attended the meeting with Global Tamil Forum in London. Along with Mr. Samaraweera, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M.A. Sumanthiran participated in it
“Mr. Eric Solheim participated briefly on the 1st day to share his experiences in engaging the diaspora,” he said.
A representative from the South African Government and a representative from the Swiss Government were also among them.
Former Norwegian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Tore Hattrem who is now a senior official of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry were among the participants. (Kelum Bandara)
what is the tamil issue really? And why is that these solheims who did not give two hoots when all sri lankans were getting blown into pieces are worried about tamils now?
Jeffk Monday, 15 June 2015 05:52 PM
Tamils in colombo live better than sinhalese in monaragala or tamils in mullativu. Does it occur to you that we only have an economic issue that is been neglected by the likes of mangala?

Ranjith Monday, 15 June 2015 02:53 PM
Ranil should realise that the lop sided Peace Pact drafted by Solheim was one of the major factor that contributed for the down-fall of his former Govt. MY 3 should use his influence not to get this man involved as Solhiem was tasked by US and some Western Nations with the mission to facilitate a State of Ealam by carving out an enclave from the North and East of the Country and eventually destabilise India. This is the UNP way of handling diaspora
Harry Monday, 15 June 2015 04:40 PM
Yes, all communities are parts of Sri Lanka, but one group cannot claim a separate part to run as a separate state.
ishanka Monday, 15 June 2015 04:46 PM
They are not part of SL. They are citizens of another country and funded terrorism here. If you need to talk to tamils, there are agents in SL
sach Monday, 15 June 2015 04:47 PM
How logical is pandering to the terrorists and their funders?
Prav Monday, 15 June 2015 04:51 PM
The problem is Ranil is not prepared to acknowledge the damage western polity has done upon Sri Lankan and on himself too. He thinks these people are god sent.
ishanka Monday, 15 June 2015 11:52 AM
misguided or misinformed. = Funded LTTE, pursue anti SL propaganda, continue to be separatists
