Jaffna Security Forces Commander Mahinda Hathurusinghe said today eight people were arrested at Kodikarmam in Jaffna on charges of having in their possession posters containing the picture of former LTTE leader Vellupillai Parabhakaran.

He alleged that they were campaigning for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) at the elections to the Northern Provincial Council.

Major General Hathurusinghe said at the time of the arrest they had some 300 such posters and that several others too were known to be having these posters in their possession.

Police said this was the first time such posters have been found in the Northern Province since the war ended in 2009. (Supun Dias)

So what if these people posses posters or pictures or other memorabilia of a dead rebel leader. I think a person has a right to own anything that is deemed legal such as posters of anything (especially when not openly displayed). Such matters are quite trivial and insignificant enough to be omitted in the current news. Seriously, who cares!!!

We were enforceable given Prabakarans photo together with Vigneswaran' photo by TNA supporters. They force us to vote for TNA.TNA is agent of LTTE. We can remember very well how we were treated by LTTE & TNA those days. You F...kers no chances in future.

    Saskia Friday, 13 September 2013 01:12 PM

Arrest all of them and send them to prison. These people try to disturb the progress of Tamils achieving self-determination in north and east in democratic way.

    RajasH Friday, 13 September 2013 01:23 PM

is it an offence to be in possession of this guy's photo?
is it an offence have Hitler's photo?

Percy Jilmart Friday, 13 September 2013 01:26 PM

The government is upto some mischief...maybe they might try to harass voters into staying away from the polling booths?

    Duminda N Jayatileke Monday, 16 September 2013 05:14 AM

You might arrest a few people for possessing Prabakaran's poster, but internationally he is a Hero and nothing can change that.

    mike Friday, 13 September 2013 01:31 PM

    hang them!!

    hello Friday, 13 September 2013 01:49 PM

Not surprising, coming from the Security Forces Commander who use his men to campaign for Govt supported candidates. Very easy to frame innocent people and cast bad image on TNA.

    mathan Friday, 13 September 2013 01:53 PM

Clever plot to cast doubts on TNA candidates. Indirectly campaigning for Govt candidates.

Suq Madique Friday, 13 September 2013 02:35 PM

This incident affirms why the troops are still needed to be based in Jaffna.
