Parliament approved three months leave for UPFA MP Duminda Silva and Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne today.

Parliament has approved leave for MP Duminda Silva continuously since he is seeking treatment for his injuries at a hospital in Singapore.  An MP should obtain parliamentary approval to be absent for more than three months. In case, such approval is not granted, an MP will lose his seat after the lapse of three months.

The Prime Minister is also under medication in the United States at the moment. On behalf of the government, Leader of the House Nimal Siripala de Silva moved the motion seeking leave approval for the two members. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)

Pride of Asia Friday, 21 September 2012 07:03 PM

It is a shame that these politicians are still supporting a murderer who killed someone in broad daylight and is perfectly alright and still supporting him. Demands Silks was on Facebook looking fit and strong in a gym. This is the stupidity government I have ever seen.

A sad Sri Lankan Friday, 21 September 2012 07:56 PM

What wee see in our country is full of comedy. Malika is released. Army Major withdrew Malika assauting him. Duminda is given further holiday. PM is ill and will be kicked out from his job. Hakeem is fooling his own people.

    Pathum Friday, 21 September 2012 08:11 PM

    jayasiri Friday, 21 September 2012 11:27 PM

Duminda Silva cannot remember if he was a Parliament Member. Can he function as a PM?

    sam Friday, 21 September 2012 11:54 PM

    Dignified you mean The PM?
Please do ask some Gamploa people what he had done in the 70s. He too was a Duminda Silva then.

    Fair N Square Saturday, 22 September 2012 07:14 AM

why so? sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. IF SF could lose his seat, so should Duminda. He already has been absent for more than 3 months... What is the plight of his constituents whose plight is sad... They do not have representation... all their problems are standstill.... NO politician is indispensable.. send em on permanent leave and get someone who is able to do the same job with more efficency...

PM is just a walking puppet. yes sir no sir, what u say is right sir....

    bandara Saturday, 22 September 2012 07:42 AM

is there any such provision in th econstitution to keep granting permanent leave, especially when one of them is wanted and the CID is supposed to be looking for him

    Lobo Sunday, 23 September 2012 04:27 AM

How can he remain and MP if he has lost his memory? But then again most MPs have this sickness because they cannot remember what they promised during election time.

    Tatu Friday, 21 September 2012 11:45 AM

They both look a like same..

    rajiv d Friday, 21 September 2012 10:45 AM

Can we also get leave from our place of work for more than three months? What a country this is If he's not fit he should be replaced by able and efficient people. Yet this is the LAND LIKE NO OTHER hence strange things do happen.

True Sri Lankan Friday, 21 September 2012 10:49 AM

    willows Friday, 21 September 2012 11:07 AM

the war hero who saved the mother lanka, lost his seat for saving the country? but two of ?????? get leave???

    Dinithi Friday, 21 September 2012 11:11 AM

One is a dignified but useless fellow, the other is undignified and useless fellow. We have to pay their salaries. DMJ is a good politician but he is too old to be a prime minister. In fact the effective prime minister is Basil. But for the sake of a position of PM DMJ is appointed and for what qualities? Harmlessness to the president.

True Sri Lankan Friday, 21 September 2012 11:15 AM

Their can get away from even murder...

    Sam Friday, 21 September 2012 11:24 AM

    ballo Friday, 21 September 2012 03:10 PM

Calistus Jayatilleke Friday, 21 September 2012 03:14 PM

It should be No Pay Leave!

peeda mossa Friday, 21 September 2012 03:27 PM

what do the citizens get in return, for paying their salary and bearing the cost of perks ?

peeda mossa Friday, 21 September 2012 03:38 PM

Grant them permanent leave. It will make hardly any difference whether they are at work or on leave. At least we can save on their perks.
