Government Information Department Director General Ariyaratne Athugala said today that all media institutions should take the responsibility for the assault on journalists during yesterday’s incident in Weliweriya and said the government could not be held responsible for it.

Speaking in Matale he said there were times when he too was helpless at times, wondering if he should resign from his post and commence his previous job at the University. (Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa)

I am a journalist and attending dinner party organised frequently by the ruling party and also obtained the perks like laptop computers, duty free car, pension scheme etc. So I should be silent and act in favour of Government.

    Thomas Saturday, 03 August 2013 04:12 PM

    Who else to blame

    Shank Saturday, 03 August 2013 04:11 PM

Who is in charge of the military who defeated the LTTE? They are the ones who got the credit at victory! When the same military do some thing wrong the fault lies in others! That's how SL is! Some things never change!

yes please resign and take up some thing else.

Because what you don't uderstand is that the Government of any country is responsible for the safety of it's citizens and you say GOV is not responsible. GOV of SL is responsible only for the afety of politico's and their sons

strange that when army won the war, the government took all the credits.. but when they attack unarmed people and journalists they are not responsible? via DM Android App

    Kumara Saturday, 03 August 2013 05:42 AM

Why should media institutions take responsibility when they are the victims? This is called passing the ball. Ultimately, no one takes responsibility.

    CROW Saturday, 03 August 2013 05:17 AM

YES SIR! ALWAYS YOU ARE RIGHT. WHY SHOULD GOVT ATTACK ITS OWN PEOPLE?

    ANTON Saturday, 03 August 2013 04:58 AM
