Doc remanded for murder

A doctor who had allegedly raped and killed a midwife in Jaffna was produced in court today and remanded. The Kayts Magistrate ordered the doctor, identified as Priyantha Seneviratne, be remanded till 24th July.

Seneviratne, a doctor in charge of Velanai hospital, is accused of killing the midwife last Saturday. Hundreds of health workers staged a protest in Jaffna this week demanding the arrest of the doctor. (Daily Mirror online)

Doctors who have graduated from Sri Lanka should realise that they are a product of free education and that their education was entirely financed by public funds. To produce a doctor, taxpayers have to spend over 5 million rupees. The way doctors behave towards the public, however, is extremely disgusting! Apart from their negligence and indifference towards patients, most of them act as greedy businessmen. A system should be in place to stop this!
