Referendum, the only constituitional tool, MR has not used so far. "Elivena jameta kalagedi sellam" Take a leaf out of JRJ's book, then both are equal.

    LHK Tuesday, 06 November 2012 09:11 AM

Hats Off to the Chief Justice and the panel of judges. You have shown to the world that people of Sri Lanka can rise up against any dictatorship to safeguard the common citizens rights.
Hats off to all of them who have gone to the courts against this illegal Divi Neguma bill and they should have done the same against Mihin Air.

    unchikun Tuesday, 06 November 2012 09:14 AM

So now we know the reason for the conflict with the judiciary . A lot of hard work to be done before the rip off begins.

    sen Tuesday, 06 November 2012 09:42 AM

    Bravo
    Chief justice!
Sri Lankan people are never for a dictatorship.
Independence of the judiciary is very important to be maintained.

    Vernon Tuesday, 06 November 2012 09:46 AM

If by any chance a referendum is to be held, please make use of that occasion to get the opinion of people on abolishing of executive presidency, and many such issues. The present voting system is such that there is no way for the people to really express their desires for the country.

    Anura Tuesday, 06 November 2012 09:46 AM

This PC system was forced down our throats by the Indians in order to destabilize Sri Lanka. Now we have to maintain huge no. of politicians off public money. mind you its over 20% of the GDP just to maintain these politicians. education 3%, Defence 18% etc. use the 2/3 majority to abolish this white elephant. we are too small a country to have all this nonsense.

    Gamaraala Tuesday, 06 November 2012 09:51 AM

    What a feeeeeling....!!!

    chandi Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:01 AM

buffaloa citizen Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:02 AM

Well done madam CJ. With a growing majority of hench-aiya's in this country, it is a streak of light to see you have stood up to honesty, ethics, principles, justice and conscience.

    Abu Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:11 AM

The feeling is same as when Prabhakaran was killed...

    chryshan Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:12 AM

There comes the cat out. This is the reason Govt trying to impeach CJ. Hats off to CJ. Try a referendum and see what will happen. I am sure they are trying to impeach CJ and create that she was not suitable to deliver such notice and Govt must be planning to re-request from a newly appointed CJ. Wow what a order.

    roshan Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:12 AM

i thought media is died after sunday leader but daily mirror
is so courage well done media you are guardian of democracy

    raviraj Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:13 AM

the PC system was introduced to resolve the north-east problem, not to destabilize SL. What is left there to destabilize SL, our politicians and "patriotic'" citizens are doing a very good job at that

    raviraj Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:18 AM

which comes first- CJ's impeachment or referendum/2/3 vote

Until referendum/2/3 vote is through, CJ's impeachment motion should not be taken up

    Minister Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:23 AM

So, no we know why CJ has to be impeached... haha!!!

    Democrat Tuesday, 06 November 2012 10:24 AM

Privy council powers should not be tampered by parlimentary
majority which can be manipulated by purchase from opposite camps for a price and after cross over they are forbidden to excercise their consience and cast votes against the aspirations of those who elected them from rival camps
