Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampanthan said the ongoing discussion on the internal rift that had arisen in the party would not impede the headway being made in achieving the objectives of Sri Lanka’s Tamil speaking people.

“There was a lengthy discussion and a frank exchange of views among the constituent parties on Thursday. We are carrying out a serious dialogue and hope to resolve this matter soon” he said.

Mr. Sampanthan said the rift had arisen mainly over the administration of the party.

The TNA is made up of the TULF, EPRLF, TELO and PLOTE as constituent parties.

“This rift is not in any way related to the political goals and aspirations of the Tamil people or the parties in the alliance. Our political aspirations, efforts and commitments towards the Tamil people of this country remain steadfast as always,” he said.

TNA spokesman Suresh Premachandran told Daily Mirror the calls to register the TNA as a separate political party was a focal point of the issue.

“There have been calls to register the TNA as a separate political party, but some of the constituent parties have their reservations about it,” he said.
Mr. Premachandran said the political objectives of the TNA would remain strong

“This is not going to impede our objectives. We will in one voice continue with our objectives to provide the Tamil people with a justiciable solution,” he said. (HF)

Fully agree that all peoples should have the opportunities regardless of ethinicity, religion or caste. They must put aside differences work towards same goals. Sadly, the former FP, TNA, TC only talk about one thing only; their imagined victimisation. Tamils should enter mainstream politics, show they care for all peoples; and others will take Tamil grievences seriously. Join in!

this govt. is also the govt. of the north and east, so they have to develop that part of the country also.
This govt. was not elected only by people from Hambantota

I am amazed that Tamils still want to hang onto ethnic minded politicians who were supporters of the lost cause of eelam. If Tamils want to live in S/L. they better assimilate with the majority community and support a collective S/L and not one of division. In any case 50% of the Tamis live in the South with the majority community the Sinhalese. Why still beat the dead drum of eelam and separatism. No country in the world has give its 10% minority equal rights as the Tamils have in Sri Lanka.

    lal Sunday, 28 October 2012 03:01 AM

UNP will agree to 13th Amendment to get Tamil votes. After the election UNP will dump 13 th. There is no majority support for 13th. Any dumbo can work out 13 th is dead and no future for it in Sri Lanka. Talk about developing Sri Lanka Sri Lanka for all SAri Lankans and forget 13th.

    raviraj Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:16 PM

they are quite capable of doing it as long as you sinhalese keep your hands off

    Ranjit Sunday, 28 October 2012 03:34 AM

Aspirations are good. Everybody has their own aspirations. But they must be practical and realistic. Sri Lanka is for all sri lankans and not for a few racists.

    Lobo Sunday, 28 October 2012 11:05 AM

ramuk if you have to wait 500 years its only because tamil politicians don't want to engage in mainstream politics, they want it handed to them on a platter and not have to work for it. Even today what has the TNA done for the tamils other than globe-trot and expect others to fight their battles.

    Lobo Sunday, 28 October 2012 11:12 AM

saskiam do you speak for yourself or all tamils?Tamils have various 'aspirations' that differs day to day, today its the 13A, what will it be tomorrow? Tell me which country will grant a separate state, and a pretty big chunk of it, for 10% of its minority?? The sooner you get rid of your victim-mentality and realize that assimilation with other communities is the only way forward for tamils the sooner you will achieve what you're looking for, peace.

If not for the Sinhalese hand most of you guys would be six feet under, courtesy of the LTTE. So be careful what you wish for.

raising the prices is not new to this country. Since noboday have back bone to fight against these things dont utter rubbish. plase leave tamils have their own agenda.

    Gampolaya Saturday, 27 October 2012 01:48 AM

This country belongs to all the communities. Nobody can divide it . We totally agree that tamils must have a seperate country but that should be in india because it has the largest tamil population.

    Lobo Saturday, 27 October 2012 02:10 AM

The TNA should sort their own internal issues before championing the cause of the Tamils they claim to represent.

TNA- Saying sweet nothings and going nowhere!

    mer Saturday, 27 October 2012 02:24 AM

This is the problems within minorites in sub continent. There is no unity at all. All pary leaders want is power. If the so called leaders are so intersted in their people SL tamils won't be in this state. Think as one, work as one , don't go around the world and make statments and blame the goverment for each and every thing do it in action.
    Well wisher

    Justin Saturday, 27 October 2012 04:21 AM

Should change TNA to T(0)NA. ( Talk Only No Action)

Al Rasa Saturday, 27 October 2012 04:39 AM

This govt, has done immense development in their areas but when an election is held majority of Tamils will take the side of TNA which only talk and never achieve their separation dream under the present regime.

    kingasanga Saturday, 27 October 2012 04:54 AM

on my view, no party should represent based on communities, language or religion. political parties should represent people in those countries.

wimal perera Saturday, 27 October 2012 05:35 AM

TNA And Sampanthan, should talk only about his aspirations and he can not and should not talk about other people's aspirations because aspirations deffer from individual to individual. Sampathan's aspirations are totally different to the rest of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, but may be a bit close to the Economic asylum seekers in the west. These TNA will all ways arouse the poor Tamil people for there well being, and travel all round the world with their families on the tax payers account. TNA be honest Be true Srilankans, forget Tamilnadu and the west or just leave Sri Lanka and join the the so call diaspora . " Wim223"

solution for srilanka's political drama is to change the constitute and make it 2 party politics like in America. via DM Android App

    Saskia Saturday, 27 October 2012 07:38 AM

Tamil people will vote for TNA because this is only party fighting for thr 13 th amendment which is aspired by majority of Tamil people. If UNP also supports this 13 th amendment, Tamils will vote for UNP.

    mamath Saturday, 27 October 2012 09:42 AM

    so they say

    RamUK Saturday, 27 October 2012 09:56 AM

i agree with you ....then how come a man like Kadirkamar was vetoed by the own part to become PM. But by contrast in US Obama be come the president of USA. Main parties should give eligible tamils the post which means some thing to lead them politically. not ppl like Karuna

    billy Saturday, 27 October 2012 09:59 AM

we cant let aspirations of few tamil racist tribal to take the whole country hostage as they did in the last 30 years, this country belongs to all, no exclusive tamil ghettos in sri lanka.

    RamUK Saturday, 27 October 2012 10:11 AM

If i were u i will dare to think like that. If tamilnadu become separate it will potentially danger for SL. Shall we agree we should think before write a comment.

    billy Saturday, 27 October 2012 10:05 AM

as long as tamils think on tribal lines like this, they will never be in peace...since independence so called tamil leaders went on this confrontation politics, they always stayed in opposition without participating in governance unlike muslims and upcountry tamil depriving their people from power then highlighted the consequences of their stupid actions as discrimination...even after 30 years of war they have not yet learned a single thing...creating tamil ghettos with exclusive powers is not the answer, learn to share the power in the center!

    RamUK Saturday, 27 October 2012 10:16 AM

Also it is important that power (ministries) should go on the merit rather than majority or minority. Even if a tamil or muslim should able to become president.....i have to wait for 500 yrs before ppl of SL to get that mental state

    Lobo Saturday, 27 October 2012 10:54 AM

saskiam, did you aspire for the 13A when Prabha was alive? Then, you guys were too scared to even your mouths even though he was supposed to be your saviour.

jaya sri Saturday, 27 October 2012 11:06 AM

people don't become presidents or pms just because of their skin color or ethnicity but because they are prefered/voted by the people. A person like our late Hon. Kadirgamar could have easily become the president eventhough he was a Tamil. But TNA's ally LTTE killed him to prevent this.
