The British Daily Mail newspaper today identified Tillakaratne Dilshan as the player who met bookies at a nightclub during the Twenty20 World Cup in England. However those close to Dilshan said he has done nothing wrong.

A Sri Lanka team spokesman said: ‘There is no evidence against any of the Sri Lankan players. None of them are guilty. These allegations are being drummed up by unscrupulous elements who are trying to upset Sri Lanka’s plans for the World Cup.'

Deepal has driven the correct opinion.

    maxa Friday, 10 September 2010 11:11 AM

shocking news is Indians players are very clean.....
present world cricket dominate by indians...... not in field.... in money. so they really target next year world cup in sub continent.

    Manike Friday, 10 September 2010 11:06 AM

May be they are trying to ruin of SRILANKAN cricketers’ name and indirectly our SRILANKA’s name.

    Janaka Friday, 10 September 2010 10:24 AM

Deepal is correct, if any man approach woman , are we going to tell she is prostitutes. Before conclude anything think twice.
World cup is ahead don't forget that

    WKEP Friday, 10 September 2010 10:03 AM

Indians corrupted cricket world. They have recently said Indian team is clean many a time, while corrupting others. These accusations are purely to demoralize possible threats to Indian team. Good luck to Sri Lankan team.

    OldCodger Friday, 10 September 2010 09:47 AM

Why is it that this guy's name continues to pop up in these all these so-called allegations. At last count it was six times, and this doesn't count the nasty Surja Randiv no-ball episode where he coerced the fellow player or is this an allegation as well, although it was proved? You deniers are all jokers.

    Agent ZER08 Friday, 10 September 2010 09:27 AM

I suspect India over these allegations...

    SidathB Friday, 10 September 2010 09:27 AM

    very true

    Nihal Friday, 10 September 2010 09:03 AM

Hot on the heals of the World Cup, which is a do-or die for dear ole blighty and she wants to cripple the assured winners by taking out one of the top rung players. Boy how lame can the English get!!!!

chris abey Friday, 10 September 2010 08:58 AM

Those close to Dilshan are who?Tharanga???

    Kadiya Friday, 10 September 2010 11:20 AM

Just like that. We all know that there is a conspiracy to downplay
the Sub-continent teams before the WC and make them weak.
At last the SLC is behind our guys.

    ranjith Friday, 10 September 2010 08:53 AM

Dilshan if he is clean, should sue against the daily mail newspaper for this foul allegation to get the justice which is damaged his name and country

tom cruse jr Friday, 10 September 2010 08:46 AM

Dili remember the people are behind you, don’t worry about these back stabbing stooges. WE ARE FOR YOU AND WITH YOU.

Gayan Samarasekara Friday, 10 September 2010 08:40 AM

Yes, most of the things are not conspiracies against us. But this is different, as far as I understand.

    Kolitha Friday, 10 September 2010 08:40 AM

Do not put pressure on Dilshan or any Sri Lanka player.
Ask these UK people to prove it....

    AMC Friday, 10 September 2010 08:38 AM

Seems this is a plan. We should support our players first. He is not guilty until it was proven without any doubt. Surely Indians are behind this.

    Michelle Friday, 10 September 2010 08:28 AM

For all we know he could have been approached by the bookies while he was at the night club... that doesn't mean that he took money to throw a match or for spot-fixing...

    Rukman Friday, 10 September 2010 08:27 AM

Err...not everything is a conspiracy against us. Stop being hysterical.

    bandula Friday, 10 September 2010 08:24 AM

Since of late our cricketers and even pakistanis have been targetted with such rumours. The most unpredictable teams were Sri Lanka and Pakistan. This is a move by interested parties to weaken our side before the world cup. Instead of running down our players all Sri Lankans should stand behind our team and cheer them to win the world cup like the Indians do. England and India are the favourites as of now to win the world cup. It is not surprising that these rumours are by English newspapers involving Indian bookies.

john harris Friday, 10 September 2010 02:05 PM

The report in the British newspaper says that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board had sent a report to the ICC anticorruption unit last year naming a SL cricketer who had allegedly met bookies at a nightclub.
The newspaper then goes on to name the player.

    kewats Saturday, 11 September 2010 01:22 PM

This too was denied by Zimbabwe Cricket today. Now get Gota to probe how this happened and who is behind this. ( I will never vote for MR but we need to use the correct resource)

    kewats Saturday, 11 September 2010 01:21 PM

See Sanga's interview on 11th Sep . All this is bull. All rumors which do not stand a chance to be proved.

    kewats Saturday, 11 September 2010 01:13 PM

Now it seems no such report and no accusations by Zimbabwe.

Island Wonder Saturday, 11 September 2010 05:22 AM

Wow. So funny. Nobody cares about LTTE or the Childrens Army. The Sri Lankan armed forces defeated the LTTE so isn't that the end of the story. I mean it is not like the Sri Lankan Army won a 'real' war.

Island Wonder Saturday, 11 September 2010 05:14 AM

Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan cricketers never had much of a 'name' anyway. If you go to Italy and Middle East you will have a very good idea of what people think of 'Great' Sri Lankans. The Europeans dislike Sri Lankans and the Arabs treat Sri Lankans like slaves. So this great Sri Lankan name.....What is it?

    fxt Saturday, 11 September 2010 04:12 AM

I am sure all of them visit night clubs. They have far too much money, given their ages, that they do not know what to do with it.

    praveen Friday, 10 September 2010 07:23 PM

People, remember the way he was dismissed in the final ... I have no doubt he did this!

    TP Friday, 10 September 2010 05:23 PM

Well as you say to get proof some body has to have an inquiry. Nobody is guilty unless proven beyond doubt.

    steven Friday, 10 September 2010 02:21 PM

This is true, He was warned by the SL Cricket board for taking money to throw his wicket, thats when he came out of his so called bad spell. He should be hung for raping that girl in Zimbabwe too? Shameless human being

    kapila Friday, 10 September 2010 08:17 AM

    Is this Jayasuriya?

    nayana Friday, 10 September 2010 01:47 PM

he is man of the series 20-20 in England world cup. but no score at final match against Pakistan. puzzle !!!!!!

    falcon Friday, 10 September 2010 01:04 PM

Remember 1996.. Australia brought up Murali's chucking issue against Sri Lanka and it had united the team ultimately providing determination to win world cup.. Perhaps, these alligations too can boomarang and boost for Sri Lankan Team (provided - dilshan has not done anything wrong).. Let's try to see the positive side..

Leslie gunasekera Friday, 10 September 2010 12:36 PM

Miliband was seen with Dilshan at the T 20 final.Maybe he too is involved and the money maybe for LTTE.Better ask KP

    rashan Friday, 10 September 2010 12:25 PM

it seems a master plan is laid out specially by the Brits to discredit and tarnish Asian player's cricketing careers. These bookies are traps set by them. And specially the 2011 world cup will be played in the sub-continent, the "whites" have realized the difficulty of winning the world cup since our players are well seasoned to sub-continent wickets. Simply they don't want a repeat of the 1996 World Cup. We hope that SLC will look at this match fixing allegations on our players with an open mind and protect our players under reasonable justifications with keeping in mind that the world cup is just 6 months away.

Cricket is no longer clean - whoever the player or team is. Indeed some of the actions of SL team needs scrutinizing - from the loss to Australia in 1992 after scoring 500plus, to the third test played against India last month!

Bottom line is there is no genuine entertainment provided by the players( not all but some) - and the paying public is cheated.

Solution: Ban live telecast of matches, boycott matches and sponsors should pull out - then let see how these cricketers live with their egos and expansive lifestyles! One thing for sure our GDP will improve while people focus on their jobs without watching fixed matches!

    WEERE Friday, 10 September 2010 11:33 AM

what about the match fixing by the australian and english team players asian media should expose them .

    Perera Friday, 10 September 2010 11:29 AM

That is left to the individual. Married or not. That's not for us to judge. The coach will discipline him if he had late nights and if it is not within the code of conduct during match season.
There is no proof yet so lets wait to see what comes up. No one is found guilty untilit is proven factually. Lets not jump the gun.

    Silva Friday, 10 September 2010 11:22 AM

Why should he dropped. You wait to see UK media will publish more stories to wreck the team morale.
You have no idea how the media works.

Ajith Ekanayake Friday, 10 September 2010 06:33 AM

Yes, exactly. Less than 6 months to world cup. British media is doing a great job to de-demoralise the asian block. All incidents seem like well planned plots..

    Suresh Friday, 10 September 2010 06:55 AM

West and NGOs cant conspire with the LTTE against Sri Lankan sovreign state any more.
Now they are turning to our lucarative sports after withdrawing the GSP+ concession.
Sri Lanka is becoming a dcitatorship slowly but surely with the 18A. But who cares blame evrything on the West and NGO.

    dhanushka Friday, 10 September 2010 06:53 AM

This is western plan to UPSET our 2011 WC preparation.

    basi Friday, 10 September 2010 06:47 AM

i dont think Dlishan has involved with match-fixing. he was performed well during the T20 world cup in England. this is the well design plan by the English media. they know dilshal is a key player for next world cup. England knows that it has good team this time and trying to creat problems againt the other cup favourite...

    Managala Friday, 10 September 2010 06:41 AM

need to be cautious western people trying to mess up our team so we will end up in bad performance at world cup

Sri Lankan Friday, 10 September 2010 06:39 AM

This well planed & creating rumors by International & some of Asian countries to drop this classy player before World cup. Please do not take any action till rules & facts are true...

    mohandev Friday, 10 September 2010 06:38 AM

What happened to vicious email campaign against the other star cricketer ? another case of political jealousy some of our sri lankan are guilty of.

Dee Jay Friday, 10 September 2010 06:37 AM

Dilshan did very well up to the semi final in that series. He was out for a duck in the final. Wonder whether there was any connection.

    Serenity Friday, 10 September 2010 06:35 AM

Given the rate at which these allegations are being targeted at the Asian countries, it is hard to rule out a conspiracy! But if proven guilty, should be given the due punishment!

    asanka Friday, 10 September 2010 06:35 AM

Fully agree with you, i think Sri Lanka Crickert also should get this stance. well said.

Palitha Ranatunge Friday, 10 September 2010 06:55 AM

British news papers are fully aware that Dilshan is the biggest threat to rejuanated English side in the forthcoming cricket world cup, especially it will be held in the sub continent, and Dilshans aggressive approach in the short version of the game particularly on sub continent wickets having nightmares for them as they have high hopes of winning the 2011 world cup.We all know how capable the British Tabloid is in character assasinations These allegations should be ignored.

    Tom Friday, 10 September 2010 06:31 AM

Why not the SLC make public the Zim tour report? What was the so called "agreement"? Afterall, if not for the sport loving public there is no sport at all.

    Thomas Friday, 10 September 2010 06:29 AM

So, he will be banned for life

    chandra Friday, 10 September 2010 06:19 AM

Correctly said Deepal, We have to be aware of the oncoming word cup to tarnish the moral of the team rumors may spread

Ground boy Friday, 10 September 2010 06:13 AM

Cricket which allow more individual dominance in the run is more fixable compared with football, expected to play by gentlemen.

    Deepal Friday, 10 September 2010 06:11 AM

There is no harm in going to a night club. Just because he talked to a bookie (knowingly or otherwise) that does not mean he is crooked. Perhaps, a bookie approached him. So what?

However, if he is found guilty of wrong doings, he should be fired and then banned from playing cricket.

simple mind Friday, 10 September 2010 06:07 AM

yeah yeah he has done nothing wrong.Thats why he asked randiv to bowl a no ball.

Gayan Samarasekara Friday, 10 September 2010 06:05 AM

Conspiring against the island nation becoming the champs again on familiar soils.

    kassa Friday, 10 September 2010 06:04 AM

Correct. Do not believe rumour until that it's proof.

    RAVI Friday, 10 September 2010 06:03 AM

    Shame . Drop him .

    JEM D Friday, 10 September 2010 07:40 AM

Why publish names without proper accusations that can be proved. I feel this is to put down our only best ans dependable player before the World Cup. Australia and west are up to their usual tricks

    SPIRIT Friday, 10 September 2010 08:14 AM

look at all the players that are directly or indirectly targeted in this. Everyone is a possible threat to England and perhaps India in the next WC to be held in the subcontinent. AUS is not a good team anymore. If SL and PAK are out, ENG or IND can easily lift the WC.

This is another wile attempt similar to what Murali experienced. SLC and all of us should stand behind our players.

SRI LANKAN Friday, 10 September 2010 08:11 AM

We can remember Murali Affair by white skin people few months ahead of World Cup!

local boy Friday, 10 September 2010 08:05 AM

This is trick to drop him from next world cup.

    Ismail Friday, 10 September 2010 08:00 AM

Those who don't like south asian player, trying to put them in a blacklist but, we are not stupid like u to take all of your comments, we nderstand our lankan player better than U . ok
stop talking of our player. you can't play better cricket against our team as well your game of fixing drama.

    polkiccha Friday, 10 September 2010 07:55 AM

the problem ins y now? can't we see a pattern here? the WC's a few months away. England have their best chance to nail the WC as they have one of the strongest sides. who else could be a serious threat to them in sub-continent pitches? Sri lanka.

imagine getting an in-form dilshan out of the WC. wouldn't that be dandy??

    polkiccha Friday, 10 September 2010 07:52 AM

You know media can publish anything and people like yourself will swallow it without a second thought.

    kewats Friday, 10 September 2010 07:45 AM

This is a vicous campaign by some other countries, bookies who were not able to penetrate and a very few frustrated patties who want their henchman to be in the team and get the main roles as well. As you can see the campaign is against the players who performed in the T20 and some even performed exceptionally in the final as well. Now it is best for CID to find who are behind the campaign. Is it South Asian power who wants to win the WC 2011 t any cost, of is it the bookies who were rejected or is it a local party in SL ? As far as I can see now all SL players are clean. England also see that they have a chance of winning the cup and are planning to put down leading contenders. Let's investigate about English players as well.

    Hemantha Friday, 10 September 2010 07:43 AM

Oh god now i can imagine how this fellow got out in the first over of T20 final with Pakistan.....Hummm!! Eid Mubarak Thuwan Ahamed !!!!!

    puranappu Friday, 10 September 2010 07:41 AM

Are you supporting to get Sanath Jayasuriya back instead of Dilshan . it's too late MR too had warned him not to play cricket again. These all are rubbish just to demoralized our team members. They are doing a mind game like Australians.

Ishan Hannan Friday, 10 September 2010 06:00 AM

These are gimics of indians and they can's see Sri lanka and pakistan doing well in the world cup,...SLC please ignore all these comments and focus only the world..the entire world know's it's our turn this time to lift the cup..do not disturb any of these players and i make a request to ICC to avoid any of those stories related match fixing against any country until the world cup is over..After the world cup you may investigate what ever the issues,

    ulg Friday, 10 September 2010 07:39 AM

Sri lankans should rally around their players. There is a CONSPIRACY to upset our world cup plans. This is a part of that...

    mwta Friday, 10 September 2010 07:36 AM

why does he visit night clubs? where did he study?

Concerned Citizen Friday, 10 September 2010 07:33 AM

He seems to be a negative influence for young players. The recent no-ball controversy is a case in point.

banana republic Friday, 10 September 2010 07:25 AM

Should Dilshan be staying up late hours when part of the national cricket team....married men going to night clubs without their wives...not a good thing. Should have a code of conduct for overseas tours.

    Raj Friday, 10 September 2010 07:10 AM

It is very easy to jump into conclusions and destroy this dashing right hander. When you destroy the top hitter, SL team too can watch the World Cup finals.

    Ravishan Friday, 10 September 2010 07:06 AM

There cannot be smoke without fire

    Wasantha Friday, 10 September 2010 07:03 AM

How can they deny without conducting an impartial inquiry. If the Sri Lanka cricket has no guts to do so, let the ICC to investigate. Do not panic and whitewash. The corruption has become a passion every segment of the country.

    PARAMANATHAN.K Friday, 10 September 2010 07:00 AM

This may another plot to weaken our cricket team as he is in top form.

Palitha Heenthotuwa Friday, 10 September 2010 06:59 AM

Traitors should be dropped and punished.
