Moneragala DIG M.R Lathif was transferred out of Moneragala with immediate effect yesterday.

The controversial request for the transfer was made by several politicians in the area and the Police including the IGP withstood the pressure stating going on record saying that the DIG had done his duty.

DIG Lathif was said to have withstood severe political pressure in the area and had carried out his duties diligently.

However, the Police in a surprise move transferred the SSP to Badulla the Police media spokesman’s office confirmed. Earlier the DIG was in charge of both the Badulla and Moneragala districts.

DIG Roshan Fernando has been appointed as a replacement.(H.F)

This is the treatment honest men get in the present day Police Department. Either get penalised for carrying out a good job or not get promoted for not dancing to the tune of the politicians.
