Badulla District DIG M.R. Latheef has been appointed DIG in charge of police training, exams and recruitment-Police Headquarters with effect from Monday May 6, Police sources said.

They said it was a routine transfer. DIG Latheef was previously Director of the National Police Academy.

Earlier DIG Latheef was controversially transferred from Moneragala after alleged political intervention consequent to the DIG instructing his juniors against acceding to threats and intimidation by area politicians including a senior Cabinet minister.(HF)
