President Mahinda Rajapaksa today charged that certain countries, international organisations and groups interpret human rights, war crimes and collateral damage, during conflicts, in small countries like Sri Lanka in a different perspective in order to suit their agendas.

Addressing the ‘Rotary South Asia Conference on Development and Corporation’ in Colombo this morning President Rajapaksa stressed that Sri Lanka has proved, for the first time, to the world that terrorism can be defeated and peace and democracy can be fully restored. (S .A. J)

I am being living in the US for the last 20 years, I know exactly what you mean and you are totally right President. However, China, Russia, India and some other countries already know exaclty what you have said. US and its Wesern double standards do not have powers anymore with collapsing economy and living standards here. We have enought in our plates here so US and allies should not interfere in the developing world.

    Dinesh Monday, 05 September 2011 06:49 AM

@ Ananda- Why dont you come to Srilanka and experience it first hand rather than making assumptions from US...lol

President has spoken the truth. But our people always find a fault at anything by looking through their colored glasses of politics as usual.

    damsen Sunday, 04 September 2011 01:19 PM

    Find the root cause.

    WICKRAMA Sunday, 04 September 2011 04:37 PM

Interpreting the law is done by judiciary. Any faults there cannot be blamed on politicians.

    divi-may2 Sunday, 04 September 2011 11:49 PM

too damn right. but then the west always had double standards
    . nothing new there.
america wants sl to charge or release detainees but it took them bloody years to charge the guantanamo detainees that is after torturing most of them like water boarding sleep deprivation etc.
now is that double standards or what.
may be one could asked blake that when he visits.

    Leela Monday, 05 September 2011 12:36 AM

Our President is right. Riduan Isamuddin, Indonesian terror suspect that US arrested moved to notorious Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba in an extraordinary rendition flight in 2003 is in detention for eighth year.
So, before advising Sri Lanka government to charge LTTE suicide bombers and mass murders held for just two and half years, the US should act accordingly and set an example for others to follow.

    Hamish Sunday, 04 September 2011 08:52 AM

    beggars cant be choosers

    foolsarealwaysfools Monday, 05 September 2011 08:17 PM

I am not a Rajapakse fan, I hate him as most of them who has commented here.
But everyone has to understand that country is more important than hatred toward president.
He is correct on the above statement. Did UN or any other so called human rights organizations came forward when LTTE were killing innocent civilians?
Lets work as one nation for the sake of our future.
Makara do you understand the weight of trouble SF has created just because to gain a political advantage?
