Deserter arrested for monk's death

Two suspects involved in throwing a hand grenade at a group of people on the day of the elections in Nawalapitiya that had resulted in the death of an 80 year old monk were arrested  by the Gampola police today.

Police Spokesman SSP I.M Karunaratne said that one of the arrested was an army deserter and the other a supporter of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) who had been in hiding in Warakapola at the time of arrest. (SD)

    Deserters aka cowards & once pardoned by the Government, should not be shown any mercy for killing a fragile & innocent 80 year old.
