since when did Marxist-Terrorists become the representatives of democracy? ask them to allow democracy in the universities first.
if democracy is in danger that's because the weak leadership in UNP(the main opposition)
Charlie Sunday, 26 September 2010 02:02 AM
JVP, You're still brainwashing university students to make life miserable for them and others. Is this your democracy?
Lanka Kolla Sunday, 26 September 2010 02:22 AM
If JVP didn't chase that government that time situation in the country completely different today. Everybody know how RW handled the peace process.
E.T. Sunday, 26 September 2010 02:24 AM
Well said, Ruwan. The country is in this state today because of the UNP and its infighting which enabled MR to make the most of the situation.
E.T. Sunday, 26 September 2010 02:28 AM
True. They were responsible for creating this Frankenstein and now we too have to live with it.
banana republic Sunday, 26 September 2010 03:01 AM
I agree with the above that we would have had a more democratic regime, but one thing is for sure...had there been a UNF govt, the war would never have been concluded.
idda Sunday, 26 September 2010 03:07 AM
Democracy has been in danger since long in the university system in Sri Lanka
Calistus Jayatilleke Sunday, 26 September 2010 03:19 AM
How can democracy strive when the whole country is trampled by a Meda Mulana autocracy. The JVP may have blundered in the past but at present it is the only effective opposition party.
Wasantha Sunday, 26 September 2010 04:12 AM
This parliament council is useless and now MR can rule the country even without the parliament. Parliamentary privileges have been totally undermined and Speaker has become a puppet. Whenever a matter concerned to opposition his only answer is "I will look into the matter " but so far nothing happened. Very soon you will have to bring a no confidence motion against Speaker for ineffectiveness, impartiality and willful disregard to the rights of of parliament.
Siri Herath Sunday, 26 September 2010 04:44 AM
Well said, Calistus! JVP and many decent people went along and screamed until their faces were blue to put Mahinda Chintana in govt. which we now know is the Frankenstein himself. Yet, the only glimmer of hope of salvation from decades of Rajapakshe rule is the tiny voice of JVP.
Jayantha Sunday, 26 September 2010 01:15 AM
Democracy is already dead - so don't worrry that its in danger.
Asanka Sunday, 26 September 2010 05:42 AM
Don't you know the difference between Marxists and terrorists
I Hussein Sunday, 26 September 2010 08:36 AM
I agree with u to a certain exptend. I was purely commenting about the statement that Vijitha Herath made. I am thankful to MR for finishing the war, ofcourse. Its a different issue altogether mate.
Phil Sunday, 26 September 2010 08:46 AM
The JVP in general, or Vijitha Herath in particular have no credentials to speak about deteriorating democracy.
The JVP is dying now.
No one is going to believe in death bed repentance.
I remember W. Dhahanayake , so called bunnies mama, repenting at his death bed. for what his government has done to the Tamils.
KD Sunday, 26 September 2010 09:11 AM
Don't forget you travel around Colombo in public transport with no fear due to Chintana govt.
Dammika Sunday, 26 September 2010 12:03 PM
We appreciate the good fight you give ... however our politicians and other crooks are lucky since people of this country forget things that happened in the past very fast. This very own JVP, Managala, Sripathi, JHU and some other went all out to bring MR in to power by assisting and planning to topple the RW govt at that time to achieve short term visions and goals. True RW had mistakes in his side too. But today no one shoul or could blame RW for the current state of affairs in this beautiful country. Today look at Managala ... sitting in UNP and JVP made a common alliance with UNP at the Presidential Election. Whom to blame ... I think very own VOTER to be blamed for all these ...
I wish to see any criticism on this regard in good deeds
thilak Sunday, 26 September 2010 04:47 PM
I agree with you, JVP kill thousands pepole using wild laws and also ther have an intention to create one party system in the country if you go to JVP classes you can learn about that even today but talking about democracy. They think pepole are foolish.
Irios Saturday, 25 September 2010 06:02 PM
What about democracy in 1971 and 1989. Hoh Hooh....hooo..
Renuka Jayarathne Saturday, 25 September 2010 02:30 PM
Democracy was most in danger in 1971 and in 1987 when you misled and sacificed our youth in thousands for a ruthless and selfish gain of power.
vijayaraja Saturday, 25 September 2010 02:57 PM
Jvp is a wing of the Govt. and how can it criticize. They were ardent supporters for the deterioration democracy
Vijith Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:03 PM
It's not fair to blame the new JVP MPs for the sins of the old. UNP has become a puppet of the govt as the leadership goes to TT to have evening tea and the JVP is the only party in the opposition that at least speaks for democracy in parliament
Fonseka Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:10 PM
Vijitha Herath is the best out of the present JVP lot but he always ends up in police custody for some reason or the other, a few months ago detained in Vavuniya, recently arrested in Galle.....cops are in love with him....
Perera Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:13 PM
Ha ha yes there's something about his face I think....perhaps the cop can't help it
Lathika Ruwan Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:14 PM
JVP is the main opposition in the country today, UNP is not even talking about democracy because there's a dictatorship in party itself.
Ruwan Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:20 PM
democracy would not have been in this danger if the JVP instead of the UNP became the main opposition. At least there would have been a vibrant opposition. poor numbers in parliament have hampered the JVP in making any headway..
vasana Saturday, 25 September 2010 03:25 PM
there's no democracy left in this country...not any more..watch it Mr. Herath they will even try to sentence you.... sad to see this happening to our motherland
Babanis Saturday, 25 September 2010 05:29 PM
As the main opposition party is in shambles due to its poor leader will expect the JVP to play a role in fighting for democracy. We, the democratic loving masses are with you.
I Hussein Saturday, 25 September 2010 02:25 PM
JVP too are responsible for this. You chased an elected govt with CBK and did everything to bring this regime along with VP, without any foresight
Faqi Saturday, 25 September 2010 06:18 PM
Democracy has been on the wane in S/L since 1956. It has gradually eroded in Sri Lanka. At the present time there is no real active Opposition in Parliament. Dissension is an integral part of any vibrant democracy and we lack that opposition today in Parliament. It appears that elected Members could be bought and sold for a price in the S.L parliament; so how could one say its democratic?.
Weerasuriya Saturday, 25 September 2010 06:53 PM
So sorry about MP Vijitha Herath Please let us know where the democracy is in action in present world. You are talking non sons.
Zufar Saturday, 25 September 2010 07:13 PM
SSSHHHHHH.......... Mr. Herath. They have the Two third now... you are in danger of being labled as a Terrorist or a traitor..
Aruna Jayawardane Saturday, 25 September 2010 08:27 PM
You should not blame anyone and must blame yourself for making opportunistic decisions for your own survival and to grab power throughout the history.
Lankan Saturday, 25 September 2010 10:30 PM
IF YOU SUPPORT MR AND HIS PARTY THEN DEMOCRACY IS THRIVING IN SRILANKA IF YOU ONE OF OPPOSITION SUPPORTERS THEN DEMOCRACY IS IN DANGER IN SRILANKA: IT IS NOT ABOUT DEMOCRACY RATHER WHICH PARTY YOU SUPPORT IT IS WHAT MATTERS HERE..
Smart Aleck Sunday, 26 September 2010 12:08 AM
The JVP is correct this time but it was their shortsighted and selfish policy in supporting the SLFP Alliance and keeping it in power that precipitated this calamity for Sri Lanka.
raj Sunday, 26 September 2010 12:13 AM
it is the consequences of being silience when war crimes committed against innocent Tamils. None of the Sinhalse parties ever raised voice against war crimes though many international organizations raised concerns.
CK Sunday, 26 September 2010 12:55 AM
Hey how you "Cheguera guys" can talk about democracy.
