The decision to suspend the visa on arrival facility to countries except Singapore and the Maldives has been reversed just minutes after the previous announcement pending further discussions, Controller General of Immigration and Emigration W. A. C. Perera told Daily Mirror online.

The decision was reversed after it created an uproar in the hotel industry as it would have affected the arrival of tourists in the country, sources told Daily Mirror online.

Mr. Perera had earlier stated that tourists arriving to Sri Lanka from nearly 70 countries will be required to obtain visas from the department of immigration and emigration in Colombo or from the Sri Lankan missions abroad before their arrival in Sri Lanka. (Daily Mirror online)

    Koda Friday, 27 August 2010 08:29 PM

It would be great if the government could issue visas on arrival, at a price - like in Dubai!

Herman Munster Saturday, 28 August 2010 07:45 AM

NIHAL PERERA Friday, 27 August 2010 10:48 PM

    Will the situation change tomorrow?

Prabhath Patabendi Friday, 27 August 2010 02:20 PM

We should stand as a nation and issue visas on arrival to Singapre and Maldives citizens only.

    sw Friday, 27 August 2010 02:22 PM

Unable to make up ones is a mindless situation

Citizen Silva Friday, 27 August 2010 02:22 PM

Did some in the comments of the earlier news flash say the Sri Lanka has a back bone. Now what?

Senior Citizen Friday, 27 August 2010 02:29 PM

Sri Lanka at its best. Left hand does not know what right hand does.

    Dayaratne Monday, 30 August 2010 01:07 PM

I hadn't thought of that possibility. You are shrewd and realistic, David!

Plain Talking Saturday, 28 August 2010 09:51 AM

This shows how the important decisions are being made. Glad that common sense has prevailed at the end. Apart from some ego I can not see any reason behind the previous decision.

    Bakamoona Saturday, 28 August 2010 10:13 AM

    Perera had been day dreaming.

    Practical Saturday, 28 August 2010 10:38 AM

Sri Lanka's backbone is the tourist industry! Not issuing visas on arrival is like jumping off World's End.

    Practical Saturday, 28 August 2010 10:39 AM

Couldn't agree with you more! Well said.

    Ellison Saturday, 28 August 2010 11:08 AM

Simple policy should be we give on arrivals only for who gives us on arrivals. This is too bad removing it.

Ibnu Batuta Friday, 27 August 2010 03:10 PM

Why SL should allow on arrival visa while Sri Lankans have to undergo severe hardship to obtain visa to other countries.

    bash Friday, 27 August 2010 03:15 PM

So, we need to bow down to other countries requirement, in order to survive, NO BACK BONE

Above the crowd Friday, 27 August 2010 03:31 PM

    No guts No glory

    saranga Friday, 27 August 2010 03:33 PM

This is good otherwise it could have badly affected for the reviving tourism industry!!

Citizen Silva Friday, 27 August 2010 03:33 PM

Sorry sir, we bowed down to the hotel industry.

Podi Guru Friday, 27 August 2010 04:07 PM

Why do Sri Lankans bow down to severe hardships? They say they are going on holiday but intend to run away once in the country of their destination. Do not be so naive!

    david Friday, 27 August 2010 04:18 PM

Ok now some people are going to make money. Showing the old news they are going to cheat the unsuspecting tourists.

    Sumathipala Saturday, 28 August 2010 01:41 PM

This Government is not concerned about the Tourism or any other industry as they are getting fat on World Bank loans and Commissions. Who cares about the people.

    Jazzy Saturday, 28 August 2010 01:57 PM

We Sri Lanka know how to confuse the world. What great brains we have. Modayas all around.

    TopCat Saturday, 28 August 2010 02:36 PM

Trust this is the best decision ever .!

    channa Saturday, 28 August 2010 02:49 PM

Same way they can earn money from this as well......which can be used to develop tourism....

    Ranjith Saturday, 28 August 2010 03:15 PM

Mr perera think twise before take decision . this is a real joke

    Ranjith Saturday, 28 August 2010 03:21 PM

Mr president. pls dont send foolish govt officers for top rank posision.

    Jamie Saturday, 28 August 2010 03:51 PM

If Sri Lankans are allowed visas on arrival half of Sri Lanka would end up at port of entries in European Countries

    kaputakukula Saturday, 28 August 2010 05:19 AM

Jokers.. can't these guys make a well studied decision and stick to it. Shame.

Calistus Jayatilleke Saturday, 28 August 2010 05:21 AM

This is what happens when vanity and false patriotism goes to one's head, especially when most of them do not have a thinking mind. Frogs in a well could be more brainier!

    Noah Saturday, 28 August 2010 05:28 AM

OMG.. I thought SL has a backbone now.. What a shame

    Eshan Saturday, 28 August 2010 05:35 AM

U mad... resign immidiately if you don't know what you are doing. you get paid through our taxes.

    Lord Saturday, 28 August 2010 05:37 AM

With this Govt what else can you expect? Always they put the cart before the horse. We need to have intellectuals running our country not cardboard chandiyas!!!!!!!!!!!

    sharm Friday, 27 August 2010 06:36 PM

Good move! The decision not to issue visas was like cutting one's nose to spite one's face - we would have hurt nobody but ourselves! We rely on tourism, a lot more than most of those other countries do!

    Observer Friday, 27 August 2010 06:39 PM

All decision makers are confused. They are obviously incompetent!

    Lal Friday, 27 August 2010 06:52 PM

I called it in my earlier post!

Sunil Lanka Friday, 27 August 2010 07:04 PM

Most our decision makers 'do not look beyond their nose.'

    lalith Saturday, 28 August 2010 06:42 AM

yes visa on arrival with a fee. How much does it cost a sri-lankan to get a visa to other countries!

    jj Saturday, 28 August 2010 07:35 PM

Not smart to answer your own question. Think with your pea brain, how many SL people have fled to western countries illigaly and do not return. Ah you can think now.

matara kolla Friday, 27 August 2010 08:12 PM

We have become a laughing stock! Same with evicting certain pavement hawkers - CMC is to reinstate them in their patches. Who needs to be 'tied to the tree' now?

    podda Saturday, 28 August 2010 09:05 PM

    Action> Reaction or Reaction> Action

    Lankawick Friday, 27 August 2010 08:20 PM

Permit visa on arrival ... but charge an arrival fee at the airport ... in US$!
