While the UNP is gearing to make some vital decisions on the party reforms at the next working committee meeting scheduled for Thursday the party’s Hambantota district MP Sajith Premadasa who had lobbied for reforms said the party should give priority to the local government elections
.
UNP Galle District MP and Party Spokesman Gayantha Karunatillke told a news conference today that the party would make some vital decisions on the party reforms at the working committee meeting.

Responding to a question raised by the journalists as to comments made by some pro reform members that the reform process of the party should be delayed till the local government elections are over, Mr. Karunatilleke said there were different ideas on it among the party members but everything could be sorted out successfully at the working committee meeting.

‘Some are requesting that the reforms should be delayed till the election is over while others say it should be done before but a definite decision will be made on Thursday,” he said assuring that a collective decision would be made on the matter.

Commenting on the matter, Mr. Premadasa told Daily Mirror that he had not made a request to postpone the reforms but had only said that priority to the local government elections as it is an election which is faced by the party’s local government members who had pioneered the lobbying for reforms. “ I have only made this point as I am not the party leader to request the working committee to postpone the reforms,” he said.

Mr. Premadasa added the entire party machinery should be behind the party candidates at this election.  (Yohan Perera)

For once Sajith has put the party before himself.

Ten days later aren't we still waiting? Ranil is a master at stymieing.

    siripala Tuesday, 11 January 2011 06:25 AM

Why Ranil cant understand he cannot win an election! hasnt the party given him enough chances? Sir please give Sajith a go. Its time you understand you are a sore looser.

Nothing is permanent in this world. I bet you. Once Sajith (or whoever it may be) started to ride the tide in opposite direction, it will be soon "drain-brain" the other direction.

    nala3 Monday, 10 January 2011 05:47 PM

Enough is enough! At least now RW should step down and allow a new leader to save the party.

    Appuhamy Monday, 10 January 2011 05:40 PM

Party reforms ?????? Start by dropping Ranil, Ravi, Mangala, Karu, Kiriella, Jayalath and other unpatriotic traitors from the party.

    KHKaru Monday, 10 January 2011 04:48 PM

The reforms are like the 'baalagiri dosha' which is supposed to come tomorrow, but the 'tomorrow' never dawns.

Change of leadership is critical but is there any point in flogging a dead horse ?

nimal gune Monday, 10 January 2011 01:52 PM

Ranil doesnt know the meaning of the word Shame. What a selfish man. The whole party wants Sajith as leader but ranil still trying to cling onto power. Go home man. No one wants you.

nimal gune Monday, 10 January 2011 01:47 PM

There is NOTHING for ranil to do. Everything he touches is a disaster. What he needs to do now is LEAVE, with out being a selfish brat.

    liamsi Monday, 10 January 2011 01:28 PM

SAJIT SHOULD TAKE OVER AND SHOW THE POWER AT THIS LOCAL GOVT. ELECTIONS THIS IS THE TIME FOR HIS LEADERSHIP TEST

    Ryan Monday, 10 January 2011 11:28 AM

This issue is too much for average person's brain

    WTP Monday, 10 January 2011 10:43 AM

sajith and RW should work together and lead the party to victory

    A-typical Sri Lankan Monday, 10 January 2011 10:25 AM

Petty differences must be overcome unless we are to be swamped by dictatorial trends. Sajith must lead before March polls.

    malkanthi Monday, 10 January 2011 10:12 AM

UNP too experiencing brain drain as the best lot has crossed over, remaining ones are immature but no option!

    Fazlan Monday, 10 January 2011 10:08 AM

Mr Sajith, please wipe out the virus (Ranil and his old coservative regime) from the party.

Bluff Bluff Monday, 10 January 2011 09:58 AM

Does that mean Sajith wants to contest the LG elections under Ranil's leadership? Good strategy, as the decision is already written on the wall !!

    FAZAL Monday, 10 January 2011 09:55 AM

UNP ALL ARE DEFORMED....SO SHOULD GO FOR REFORM.....

    Cynic Monday, 10 January 2011 09:49 AM

Sajith beware. RW will do any dirty thing to cling on to power and UNP funds.
