Audio: Decision makers of UNP should be ashamed -SF

Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, who referred to remarks made by UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake that fielding Fonseka at the presidential election as a common candidate was a mistake, said the UNP should feel ashamed about its political decision making.

“They must be ashamed at its political decision making. If at a crucial election it goes round the country telling people to vote for somebody and three years later they say it’s a mistake, how can you then believe or trust such a party. They may do this in the future as well,” he said,

Mr. Fonseka said those who are opposed to Thursday's (18) rally at Hyde Park are those who have the backing and the blessings of the President.
“We have our doubts and questions about the aspirations and objectives of those who are opposed to the rally.  We expect everybody in the opposition to be a part of the rally unless they have the support and the blessings of the President,” he said. (Hafeel Farisz)

    shama Thursday, 18 October 2012 02:40 PM

We saw SF's true colours in 2010. That's why we didn't vote for him.

Everything is up to people of this country. If there is a good participation today, All those people who criticise this will have to shut up and wait. If it is another rally, then well it is too quick to guess what might in Store for SF. What ever the SFs political strenth or acumen, he is the one they fear most.
Dont forget that . It itself is a big attraction for him.

    YEHIYA Thursday, 18 October 2012 06:29 AM

    Ranil & Sajith

    YEHIYA Thursday, 18 October 2012 06:29 AM

    People need & wants SF

    Curious Wednesday, 17 October 2012 05:08 PM

Seems SF never learnt a lesson.

    AMAR Wednesday, 17 October 2012 04:44 PM

I do not under-estimate the role of SF in the war as the army chief. But, I am in the opinion that he is not the person who won the war for us...!It is MR and the GR at first. SF and the Army did what they were trained to do.Unlike early 50s or 60s, no army could go for a full scale war at present where UN mechanism is more active. IT IS ALL ABOUT HOW YOU HANDLE THE WORLD POLITICALLY THAN HOW YOU HANDLE THE WAR FIELD MILITARILY....!

    AMAR Wednesday, 17 October 2012 04:44 PM

Former army chiefs couldn't win the war, because they were never allowed to for for it.We could have won the war and captured Prabahakaran without doubt during the Wadamarachchi operation.Gajaba Regiment was led by Maj.Gotabaya Rajapaksha.Even charismatic leader JR, were under pressure from external element and eventually gave orders to abandon the war.USA would never support us abandoning bigger market like India.MR managed to get China and Russia, even India to back, this was the key for the war. First hand experience of Gotabaya Rajapaksha in Wadamarachchi operation was another key factor.Secondly, being the president brother and the Defense Secretary, there were good understanding and cordination in the operation..If GR was not the defense secretary and MR was not the president, we would never go for the war and win the war....! I can say it very clearly.

Ryan Hudson Wednesday, 17 October 2012 04:36 PM

There is no government contract, but this is what happens to people like you who try to cheat common people of this country

Junior Citizen Wednesday, 17 October 2012 03:57 PM

All factions are in MR's pockets, Ranil in the right side, SF in left, while Sajith is in another place(cannot reveal publicly)

    Appuhamy Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:21 PM

Both SF and the UNP are dishing out total rubbish...

    sad Wednesday, 17 October 2012 02:33 PM

how stupid is SF to do this.. he is getting low by the seconds !
Ranil is the only solution we have at the moment !

    krishna Wednesday, 17 October 2012 02:23 PM

Yes it was shamed that in 2010 we vote you.

    H.Manawadu Wednesday, 17 October 2012 01:57 PM

Try to compromise one leader for the opposition.

Real peace Wednesday, 17 October 2012 01:53 PM

Maha Raja is harvesting the fruits of SF's release with a big smile! Very bad news for the poor Sri Lankans who are struggling to make ends meet!!

    UP Wednesday, 17 October 2012 02:01 PM

Be careful not to start war with UNP. That means you are adding another rival.

    M. GONE Wednesday, 17 October 2012 01:56 PM

WELL TO ONE AND ALL THERE IS NO UNP,, IT IS A DEAD PARTY....... AND WILL SOON BE FORGOTTEN. FOR SURE RANIL WILL NOT BE ELECTED IF THERE IS AN ELECTION AND SO WILL HIS FOOT LICKERS AND BACKLICKERS.

H.E. GEN. SARATH FONSEKA IS THE SURE BET AND VICTORY IS ASSURED.

AS FOR RANIL LET HIM REMAIN IN THE OPPOSITION, HE IS A COWARD, A TOTAL FAILURE UTTER DISGRACE.

    RANIL IS DISGUSTING.....

    Vernon Wednesday, 17 October 2012 01:24 PM

It is correct that political leadership was extremely essential to win the war, which was given by MR, and we should give credit for that. But how-much political leadership given is not going to win the war against such a ruthless terrorist, if correct and fearless leadership to be given in the decisions and strategies to be adopted and was adopted in the field by SF, for which we have to give credit to SF. One couldn't have done without the other. Who is better to lead the country is completely another matter for argument

    AMAR Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:58 PM

SF has no political experience to BE a serious leader of this country.Leading a democratic country and an army, are two different things.I never give him credit for winning the war.It was apolitical war than in the field.MR was cleverly manage Russia and China to back the war.Otherwise, we would not have done the war, due to external pressure. What if MR stop the war like JR did in Wadamarachi..? Would SF able to continue?.Actually we lacked a strong political leadership to end the war.We always had leadership in the army .No dpubt.SF came to lime light because of what MR and company did.To be honest, after MR, Ranil is the best person to run this country. He may be far liberal or right wing. But he is still much better than SF.Believe me, THE KNOWN EVIL IS BETTER THAN THE UNKNOWN EVIL...!

    Sam. Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:40 PM

General Fonseka, you are % correct. People are asking for a change. The UNP office bearers who oppose Hyde Park rally are helping Dictator to survive. Let them cut their own grave. You have the courage to lead the country to a better future.

    chuti Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:34 PM

Didn't you supportet ex-Cj say same thing. He made a mistake and let tet MR become the President

Calistus Jayatilleke Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:33 PM

So now its a free-for-all within the so called "common" Opposition with those in the government having a big laugh. Somehow one gets the feeling that some entity within the opposition is carrying out this contract for the government and people are puzzled as to who exactly it is.

Imran Hussein Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:40 PM

    General fonseka's popularity is declining.
Its crystle clear that this hyde part rally tomorrow has a hidden agenda. Both SF & Karu working for MR.
    Why Sajith Premadasa not participating?

    Iranga Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:32 PM

UNP is loosing so mush due to bad leadership and top people around the leader.

    Lobo Wednesday, 17 October 2012 12:37 PM

What more can you expect from a party controlled by politically outdated old fogeys who still want to cling to power.
