Death sentence

The Southern Provincial High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena, today sentenced to death an accused who was found guilty of hacking to death a seven year old school boy.

The death sentence was passed on the accused identified as Sunil Jayakody alias Wadambarige Sunil also known as ‘Yaka'.

The defendant was accused of hacking the seven year old school boy, Supun Dilantha Senarath Pathirana, in 1997, in the Neluwa Police Division.

    Justice finally... I have heard of this Hon Judge before and she has always been tough on real offenders. We need many Judges of this nature!

    its no point sentencing them to death when there is no capital punishment applied.....there should be another sentence which will give this devil harsh suffering...!!!

    As the capital punishment is confined only to paper, they will just be in jail at public expense. It is high time that it is re-introduced.
