The mother of Danuna Tillekaratne, Asoka Tillekaratne, was given bail by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate a short while ago. The Mount Lavinia Magistrate also issued an order preventing Mrs. Tillekaratne from leaving the country.

Mrs. Tillekaratne was earlier arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further questioning. A statement was recorded from her by the CID yesterday.

Danuna Tillekaratne is the son-in-law of defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka who is currently under arrest by the military police.

Cash worth 75 million rupees was recovered from several safety lockers belonging to Mrs. Asoka Tillekaratne early this week.

    Well said mohan!

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:33 AM

mohandev i dont know who you are but this much i can say 4M people who voted for SF are not stupid. they are the true sri lankans. who loved their mother land.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:34 AM

Any way poor Fonseka is at receiving end this time. MR and clan's turn will come one day. I think this is a good sign for general public. As most govt in the past never exposed political opponents and their illegal transactions. I know SF is a war hero, but any one who has done wrong should be worried now as when this govt loses power (one day it will happen), they should expect to go to prison.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:37 AM

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:43 AM

What goes around, comes around....Its just a matter of time.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:04 AM

Mohandev! Why don;t you wait till the case is decided by court?

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:07 AM

This should be part of the money from illegal trade. What about the rest? SF promised to stop corruption and that was one of his election promises if he came into power. But he little realise d that corruption should stop at home first.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:10 AM

Please check all politicians accounts and lockers

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:21 AM

First clean the Fonsekas and Tilakeratnes. At the end there would be some one to clean MRs.So Let MR clean these people. If Danuna is innocent why he has to hide. There is some thing there for him to hide and I am sure he is another criminal.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:22 AM

Why can't CID check all politicians and there wife's bank A/C's.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:40 AM

Is it illegal to have a lot of money in a vault? First time i heard of such a law. If she can account for the money i guess it is okay.& as far as I know foreign currency is not taxable either.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 10:50 AM

    Anusha sees nothing,beleives nothing!
SF is a rogue and I'm oh so sad to break this news to you!

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:18 AM

Mohandev, Please don't get agitated over nothing. If MR won by the majority of 1.8 m votes why worry about the 4.m. In a democracy everybody has the right to his own opinion.
As for Mrs Thilakaratne lets go the basis that 'she is innocent until proven guilty'

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 11:08 AM

when are they going to check safes belong to rajapakses

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 11:09 AM

Learn judge, when releasing her on bail did not bothered to ask her where about of her son wanted by another court?
    Is this politics?

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 11:21 AM

So..LET MR lead the way..i think still he has to present his " Incomes to the General Public" which is something he should have been done before the GE. Did he ever do that? :)..

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 11:28 AM

    that is the CHANGE

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 11:53 AM

Even if they had got this much of money why did they have it in the bank vaults? Well known fact is that the major,s family was under siege from the time he entered politics so there was ample time to hide this somewhere. So did somebody plant this money in the vaults? something fishy........ we should wait & see the statement given to the CID.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 11:55 AM

It is not 4m votes it is 5.5m votes. What about the safes of government ministers. presidents family. You think their clean.First the rulears must set an example. For everything don't accused the opposition because they do less harm to the country whlie being in the opposition this is the mistake we are making.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 12:58 PM

Hey the whole world knows about the Rajapakses and their
ill gotten wealth. So wake up The Rajapkses are not ruling legally. Their rulership is illegal. Didn't you know that???.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 12:59 PM

Not only Swiss but in other countries as well.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 01:01 PM

See how family members get haressed. It wont be long before we see the perpetrators of the crimes being brought to justice.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 01:20 PM

Well mohandev, the intelligent voter (we hope), please tell us your lovely logic of looking into the bank accounts of ones enemies only when their own accounts could be overflowing with goodies ? Fair play by your stupid logic ? Touch and see if you have horns or a tail brother !

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 01:33 PM

from where is this money ??
She said to whom it belong to.

Then, for how long she had held this money ?

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 07:49 AM

Why should she leave the country? This sum of money is not that colossal as that being possessed by some of the Ministers who only had a motor cycle before being a Minister and now possessing palatial palaces.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 06:46 AM

Let poor lady (with Rs. 75 million) go home and hava a grant party.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 07:01 AM

We believe that most of the commentors to the earlier news item with regard to this news have been rightly answered with this order of court, due process have to be followed and the Government has not interfered the judiciary. Democratic people are looking forward to a fair trial for Danuna, and justice being done.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 07:03 AM

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 07:28 AM

Shame, shame, shame.........We should be ashamed to be citizens of this country...

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 07:31 AM

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 08:26 AM

JVP could not arrange a demonstration opposite the CID office or the ML courts before her release. What a shame?

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 08:28 AM

How about the CID check the bank accounts from the highest in the land , his relations and his 130 odd ministers. This 75 million will look like small change. By the way to be appointed IGP in this country is the only requirement a medical certificate to say that you are Spineless,Gutless and Shameless!!!!!!!!

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 08:43 AM

Another failure of CID..seems like they are getting worser than the SL Police..now..arresting people without evidence or any charges. Better organize your self and act properly without becoming a bunch of Jokers to the General Public. How come the CID is not aware about the SL laws ? Pathetic display CID.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 08:56 AM

So what. The Rajapakses safes should also be checked out.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:03 AM

Surely nothing left in Sri Lankan Banks. May be Swiss Banks...

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:04 AM

Bear up, the rajapakse's are ruling not fonseka or thilekaratnes. First we have to clean up the ones who want to clean others not the other way around. When you throw stones at other from glass houses must be ready to face the same stones. Simple logic is not understandable to the stupid 4m voters

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:11 AM

Here again only pro government comments seem to be accepted. Shame, shame.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:15 AM

Oh the Rajapakses-Clan try to find something to do demage to the Family of Mr. Fonseka.
What did the President??? Everything right ?? He is a very very poor men.

    Wednesday, 17 February 2010 09:18 AM

Did anyone check how much was spent on the "panchaudaya" mansion and from where the money came from?
