Customs seize foreign currency worth Rs.14 million

Airport Customs arrested an Indian National with foreign currency worth Rs.14 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when he attempted to smuggle them to India on last morning. The money was found hidden inside fourteen AC-DC adaptors. 

He attempted to smuggle foreign currency including US Dollars, Sterling Pounds, Australian Dollars, Japanese Yen, Canadian Dollars, Kuwaiti Dinars and Euros, the Customs said.

The raid was conducted after gathering valuable information about his activities. He was arrested after gathering valuable information received about his suspicious behaviour.

The Customs made the biggest detection in the history of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when a local was arrested with foreign currency worth Rs.81.76 million when he attempted to smuggle them to Singapore on September 14. (Supun Dias and Deepa Adikari)
