The Director General of sports in a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket advised the board to reject the nomination of incumbent President Upali Dharmadasa, if his nomination papers did not include approval by the Minister.

Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage is yet to grant approval to the nomination of incumbent President of the SLC, Upali Darmadasa, and will decide on his nomination on recieving recommendations by the SLC.

“It’s a matter for the SLC to decide and I’m awaiting their recommendations. I have not given approval to his nomination yet” The Minister of Sports told Daily Mirror online

When questioned about the candidacy of Thilanga Sumathipala consequent to the recent statement the Minister made in parliament to the effect that no person will hold office, if either himself or his family are involved in betting, the Minister said he awaits the report of the inquiry.

“ An inquiry has already been imitated into this. I’m awaiting its report. He will only be able to contest if he doesn’t fall within the category of persons who cannot contest”( Hafeel Farisz)

What a Joke. Isn't he the current Preident. Did not the Minister approve his nomination Last time. The approval is needed because he has not played cricket, and presume the approval is granted to say he has the required cricket knowledge to run the SLC although he has not played the game. So is it that he had that knowledge last time and not this time. Ha ha ha. God Bless them.
