Chief Justice Mohan Peiris said the country's judicial structure would be subjected to reform and the judicial work in Courts would be transformed into an electronic Technology system in due course.

A pilot project called ‘E 5’ is to be introduced at the Matara Courts complex and this would ease the congestions in Courts, the CJ said.

Addressing a ceremony at the Panadura District Court, the CJ also said that the working hours of courts would be changed from 9 am to 4 pm on week days.(KS Fernando)

You can introduce new systems with best of technologies in the world. Our judicial system will remain the same because of political appointments to the judiciary. Only an Independent Judicial Commission could bring in changes. via DM iPad app

It's about time, do some thing to get things moving in courts. Worst place to be if you have any cases pending. You will be dead and be born three times by the time they solve anything!

To ease the congestion implement laws for lawyers to work without weeks long vacations in April and December. Lawyers given vacation like school children. That is one of the reasons having heavy delays in delivering justice. Make the justice system an essential service. Otherwise the new technology would help in small margin to ease the bulks of cases awaiting justice for many years.

    Cobra Sunday, 27 April 2014 12:47 AM

Good as long as the cases don't keep piling up and piling up, taking years to conclude!

WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IS THE QUICKEST WAYS TO GIVE THE CORRECT JUDGEMENT WITHOUT DRAGGING ON CASES FOR DECADES.

    McDonald Sunday, 27 April 2014 02:09 AM

Introduction of Electronic Technology in courts is well appreciated but the present need is to introduce an Independent Judiciary.

You may introduce high tech systems to assist the judiciary. But what matters is the man in front of the machine. If he is crooked or a political appointee you'll still get the same verdicts. via DM iPad app

When injustice gets high-tech, we'd all be in a flat-spin.
