Pelassa Magistrate Namal Perera ordered the Moulavi of the Paragahadeniya Grand Mosque in Mawathagama and the Road Development Authority yesterday, to remove the sign board erected in front of the Mawathagama Paragahadeniya Mosque, which reads, ‘Mosque ahead- keep silence’, within 14 days.

The magistrate also ordered that, after removal of the notice, the matter be reported to the magistrates’ court. His order follows a complaint made to court by the Mawathagama Police.

The OIC of the Mawathagama Police Station, Inspector Deshabandu Senaratne pleaded from court that the notice be removed on an order under number 98 of police regulations, in order to avoid an uprising of the Sinhala Buddhists of the area.

Meanwhile, a suspect named Mohamed Hassim Samsudeen, described as a teacher attached to Theliyagonna Hisbullah Central College, Kurunegala who had been arrested for allegedly damaging the notice board was ordered by the magistrate to be remanded until August 21.(Pushpakumara Jayaratne)

so will the courts order the demolition of the Mosque to prevent an uprising by Sinhala Buddhists or will the courts order removal of a temple sign board to avoid uprising of another minority community.
If there is a uprising the police should deal with it according to the law of the land.

Good to see some still have the unity regardless what religion they are.. The unity of Srilanka is now getting ruined after the entry of certain new organisations which Gamini has mentioned above..
Eventhough I'm a christian, i have so many colleagues n friends from all communities.. so we just need the same untiy now and in future as well..
Hope sri lanka will be an example of unity to other countries and doesn't end up in another war..

The application was supported ex parte with no notice to the mosque authorities. The Magistrate has not ordered removal of the board."

This is another instance of the BBS and the Police with the support of mainstream media, stirring the pot and creating conflict."
In fact the board is still standing there. The next court date is August 26, 2013. via DM Android App

I am happy that law and order is completly applied to minorities ... atleast. I am proud that i am a citizen to whome the law is always applicable.
it is shame to be a citizen to whome the country law is selectivly applied. i am not that citizen via DM Android App

Mosque should not make noise during prayers by using loud speakers, in respect of surrounding neighbors

    xlntgson Friday, 16 August 2013 11:25 AM

Too much talk on a court order! #prasad, where it is stated, 'kill all', who criticize Islam?

    ravisandu Friday, 16 August 2013 11:22 AM

The reasoning given by the police is absurd. If displaying certain types of notice boards on public roads is prohibited by law definitely it should be removed. but ordering it on the basis of preventing an uprising by the Buddhists is ridiculous to say the least. may be the OIC tried to live up to his name.

    Friends !

All These Started after BBS went to Kurunegala, This issue was NOT there before, this is a very Old sign board which use to be there for decades.

Don't you guys understand Where ever BBS goes there is an Issue.

Where was this BBS before 2 years??? was there any issue in this beautiful country??? now any where you go all the minorities looking at like ghosts.. This is NOT good, i have friends from all the minorities, and they don't feel the same when they are around me. I wish and pray this BBS and SR should vanish soon. Then expecting our country will be the most popular and powerful nation in the world.

i am a buddhist but law should be equal

    Prasath Friday, 16 August 2013 07:20 AM

Mr. Jeffry , you only care about Islam , and all muslims are trained to do so and the center of your teachings says "Kill all the people who criticize Islam" well thats not possible , now the best way to fight your absurd beliefs is to introduce Chinese people and the same applies to all parts of the world and start eating pork and make it the national meat.
