Convey unhappiness to Colombo: AIADMK

The AIADMK on Friday expressed unhappiness over the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa's criticism of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and wanted the sentiment be conveyed to Colombo.

Raising the issue during zero hour in the Lok Sabha, party leader M. Thambidurai rejected Mr. Rajapaksa's allegation that Ms. Jayalalithaa had voiced concern over the plight of ethnic Tamils and condemned “war crimes” for political gains.

“Ms. Jayalalithaa had spoken on the basis of facts and it is condemnable to say that she did it for political gains,'' Mr. Thambidurai said.

He said a U.N. panel had claimed that 40,000 innocent Tamils were killed during the 2009 war and External Affairs Minister S M. Krishna had put the number of affected people at three lakh.

Mr. Thambidurai referred to the resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly seeking economic sanctions against Sri Lanka and Ms. Jayalalithaa's statement condemning Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa and said the Central government should convey its unhappiness to the Sri Lankan High Commission.

As he was speaking, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy said a discussion had been slated on the issue.

Ms. Jayalalithaa had told the Assembly that thousands of Tamils were killed mercilessly by the military in the civil war. (thehindu)

Bear it in mind She is the Leader of over 40Million people when compared to Mahinda of half that population. You can not ignore the power and influence she hold among the leader of the central govenment. Gotha is only a goverment servent he has no business to get involved in political matters. Thambidurai you must realise that UN figures were all incorrect. Jayalalitha's comments on ethnic tamils is bragging party politics. Sri Lanka is for sinhalese, tamils, muslims and burghers. She cannot run Sri Lanka and if she wants the tamils sent to Tamil Nadu that is a different story. Jayalalitha has no business to put her finger into our affairs. Mr Rajapakse has the right to comment. Don't try your hand on tamil issues and tamils in Sri Lanka will have to live according to the rules governed by the elected government. So please keep your views to yourself.

Karuna was supporting Congress govt. to suppress Tamils in Sri Lanka, therefore the Lankan govt should not be blamed for whatever happened in May, 2009. Sole responsibility lies with India.

The real issue here is undiplomatic action by the Defence Secretary who is a mere official in the government geting involved in matters of state which should best be left to the concerned Ministers and the President.
