That is the fault of the Police and the brain less magistrate.
She humiliated the President.

If the case is withdrawn, there should not be Fine or bail as well, that needs to be cleared.
Lal Monday, 11 February 2013 07:44 AM
But the damage done to her character is irreparable. She should be compensated for all the disturbances she had gone through.
paksha Monday, 11 February 2013 07:48 AM
In sri lanka you can do what ever if you are under 18 but you can not do that in arab country. in this case cutting hand is the punishment
Heman Monday, 11 February 2013 07:49 AM

Impeach the magistrtate.
Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 11 February 2013 08:50 AM
The bottomline is, despite the brouhaha and bravado of the ruling politicians that they are marching towards a so called Miracle of Asia, there is too much poverty in the country and that the concept of "free education to all" has become a big myth. Instead of making enquiries, all what the government should do is to acknowledge that there are funds collections in each and every government school forcing children to bring monet for various purposes and impose a complete ban on such collections.
Ann Monday, 11 February 2013 09:16 AM
Cut down the excesses and corruption by those in parliemant and I gaurantee you can find at leaset some of the money needed to finance basic school requirements
padma Monday, 11 February 2013 07:21 AM
This is an one stores conclusion. More will follow; this is profile of the country situation. Whatever central bank says the country is gone to bad to worst
laksiri Monday, 11 February 2013 12:01 PM
it is important to remove this man as magistrate position as sooner who does not carry any common senescence to carry out his job.this is the man asked SLRS,50,000/- bail for this poor girl and make this matter more serious.did this man has capacity to ask from the girl that reason for doing and why not ask school principle to come court in the same day with the help of police and settle it.it is the system of our judges that simply postponed any matter and go home.
MMJ Monday, 11 February 2013 12:00 AM
wait, think of what you all suggest using the brain, not just heart. The child is not 100% guiltless, punishment was out of proportion. The message of all this is, "it is ok to steal our you are compelled to, it is the need that is at fault..." is it? next person to steal will give another heart rending excuse and all will blame the govt and comfort the person. Then where to draw the line? via DM Android App
MMJ Monday, 11 February 2013 12:00 AM
don't entirely blame the system for the magistrate's fault. via DM Android App

nicky karunarathna Tuesday, 12 February 2013 02:40 AM
Complainant, police and judge - all are shameless idiots. They are insult to the very humanity. This should have never happened in this 21st century unlike in Europe, UK and US - Catholic enclaves whom worshiping a Palestinain man call Jesus and denying the Palestinain rights.
Clifford Tuesday, 12 February 2013 06:15 AM
So finally who is the Director and producer of this whole drama?
Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 12 February 2013 06:43 AM
Nicky Karunaratne seems to be so bankrupt for new ideas that he has to drag Jesus Christ and the Palestinians every time he needs to post a comment. Hatred towards other religions means one does not love or believe in his own religion. What a pathetic soul.

The owner of the coconuts should be also be given a knock and pep talk. He took a 13 year old girl to courts for just 8 coconuts!! Couldn't he have warned the girl and informed her parents instead of taking such drastic steps. He is so greedy for 8 coconuts which would have cost him a mere Rs 320/p approx, Suppose he has plans to take the 8 coconuts to his grave.
007 Monday, 11 February 2013 05:56 AM
Who where the pin heads who filed a police case when a kid takes 8 coconuts?
AIA Monday, 11 February 2013 05:54 AM

Now, I suggest to investigate the matter of schools asking children to get money for the painting of classrooms.
malkanthi Monday, 11 February 2013 06:29 AM
The child will be penalized in the school. This is the present trend in many schools.
SAMAN FERNANDO Monday, 11 February 2013 06:26 AM
NOW PUNISH THE SCHOOLs FOR COLLECTING MONEY ILEAGALY BY USING CHILDEN,PUNISH THE POLICE FOR NOT FOLLOW THE LAW REGARDING THIS INCIDENT INVOLVE WITH A CHILD,PUNISH THE MAGISTRATE WHO DOES NOT KNOW LAW AND ISSUING A ILLEGAL ORDER AFFECTING A SCHOOL CHILD.
edward Monday, 11 February 2013 06:34 AM
Good news hope the police nad courts know the law before arresting minors
new guy Monday, 11 February 2013 06:35 AM
the truth is that the government cant afford to do all the stuffs in a school. even its free education. even we payed some money for various stuff.like trips, paintings etc.
some cant afford to do that.they sud be given some time to pay
and some cant even do that.they should be released from all the extra expenses.
i think if the government banned collecting money, they shud provide all the extra money by themselves, which they cant seems to do
Lobo Monday, 11 February 2013 06:45 AM
The local authorities who arrested and prosecuted this child must not be let off easily. They and the complainant must be made to pay for traumatizing this girl.
kaputakukula Monday, 11 February 2013 06:47 AM
Withdraw the case or erase the case from the book BUT CAN YOU REMOVE THE SCAR ALREADY INFLICTED ON THIS CHILD? Stupid police.
A government is elected and formed to provide for the nation as such SCHOOLS SHOULD NOT DEMAND MONEY FROM STUDENTS. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PAY.
Achari Monday, 11 February 2013 05:51 AM
Very happy news for the poor girl.
DHA Monday, 11 February 2013 06:51 AM
Exactly he should be put behind bars....he's not suitable to be a principal at all....
straight record Monday, 11 February 2013 06:48 AM
You are no doubt correct, but this case draws attention to the matter of under-funding of schools by the government.
jagath wettasinghe f Monday, 11 February 2013 06:51 AM

Starting with the school Principal, teachers The Nitwit of a mudalali, Police, and the crowning Donkey of them all, the Judge who presided the case, without laughing his head off, and sternly warning the police to go catch real crooks, without wasting his time and the taxpayer's money.
Sapumal Bandara Monday, 11 February 2013 07:06 AM
All school Principals, repeat all school Principals fall in to this category. Tell me of one school Principal in Sri Lanka who does not collect money, either for legitimate reasons or otherwise.
Kasi Monday, 11 February 2013 07:13 AM
Focus sh.not be on withdrawal....but, ground realities....
Sapumal Bandara Monday, 11 February 2013 07:15 AM
This money collecting business within schools has opened flood gates to a plethora of other extremely dangerous trends. This has to be arrested immediately. We are sitting on top of an active volcano.
Ruszana Monday, 11 February 2013 07:14 AM
this poor child from Horana became a victim to teach the state what is happening with free education for the poor masses. Please protect this traumatized child and family
Sapumal Bandara Monday, 11 February 2013 07:19 AM
Can the Human Rights Watch file a Fundamental Rights case on behalf of the 13 year old girl, whom I feel has already undergone tremendous mental agony and trauma.
