If the case is withdrawn, there should not be Fine or bail as well, that needs to be cleared.

Calistus Jayatilleke Monday, 11 February 2013 08:50 AM

The bottomline is, despite the brouhaha and bravado of the ruling politicians that they are marching towards a so called Miracle of Asia, there is too much poverty in the country and that the concept of "free education to all" has become a big myth. Instead of making enquiries, all what the government should do is to acknowledge that there are funds collections in each and every government school forcing children to bring monet for various purposes and impose a complete ban on such collections.

it is important to remove this man as magistrate position as sooner who does not carry any common senescence to carry out his job.this is the man asked SLRS,50,000/- bail for this poor girl and make this matter more serious.did this man has capacity to ask from the girl that reason for doing and why not ask school principle to come court in the same day with the help of police and settle it.it is the system of our judges that simply postponed any matter and go home.

    MMJ Monday, 11 February 2013 12:00 AM

wait, think of what you all suggest using the brain, not just heart. The child is not 100% guiltless, punishment was out of proportion. The message of all this is, "it is ok to steal our you are compelled to, it is the need that is at fault..." is it? next person to steal will give another heart rending excuse and all will blame the govt and comfort the person. Then where to draw the line? via DM Android App

Complainant, police and judge - all are shameless idiots. They are insult to the very humanity. This should have never happened in this 21st century unlike in Europe, UK and US - Catholic enclaves whom worshiping a Palestinain man call Jesus and denying the Palestinain rights.

So finally who is the Director and producer of this whole drama?

Calistus Jayatilleke Tuesday, 12 February 2013 06:43 AM

Nicky Karunaratne seems to be so bankrupt for new ideas that he has to drag Jesus Christ and the Palestinians every time he needs to post a comment. Hatred towards other religions means one does not love or believe in his own religion. What a pathetic soul.

The owner of the coconuts should be also be given a knock and pep talk. He took a 13 year old girl to courts for just 8 coconuts!! Couldn't he have warned the girl and informed her parents instead of taking such drastic steps. He is so greedy for 8 coconuts which would have cost him a mere Rs 320/p approx, Suppose he has plans to take the 8 coconuts to his grave.

The child will be penalized in the school. This is the present trend in many schools.

new guy Monday, 11 February 2013 06:35 AM

the truth is that the government cant afford to do all the stuffs in a school. even its free education. even we payed some money for various stuff.like trips, paintings etc.
some cant afford to do that.they sud be given some time to pay
and some cant even do that.they should be released from all the extra expenses.
i think if the government banned collecting money, they shud provide all the extra money by themselves, which they cant seems to do

    Lobo Monday, 11 February 2013 06:45 AM

The local authorities who arrested and prosecuted this child must not be let off easily. They and the complainant must be made to pay for traumatizing this girl.

    kaputakukula Monday, 11 February 2013 06:47 AM

Withdraw the case or erase the case from the book BUT CAN YOU REMOVE THE SCAR ALREADY INFLICTED ON THIS CHILD? Stupid police.
A government is elected and formed to provide for the nation as such SCHOOLS SHOULD NOT DEMAND MONEY FROM STUDENTS. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PAY.

All school Principals, repeat all school Principals fall in to this category. Tell me of one school Principal in Sri Lanka who does not collect money, either for legitimate reasons or otherwise.

this poor child from Horana became a victim to teach the state what is happening with free education for the poor masses. Please protect this traumatized child and family

Can the Human Rights Watch file a Fundamental Rights case on behalf of the 13 year old girl, whom I feel has already undergone tremendous mental agony and trauma.
