i was wondering y it was taking such a lengthy period.

    Wednesday, 23 June 2010 12:16 AM

CMC is one of thoe most corrupt institutions in the island.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 11:03 AM

CMC should have been dissoleved over corruption charges long ago. Governmnet preferred to keep them knowing they are corrupted,If an election had been conducted definitely UNP would have been in power. Government policy is UNP is a headache.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 11:03 AM

The most corrupted institutions of the public administration are municipal councils. What they only do is garbage collection and collecting money. Most of their works are duplicated by many other government institutions.
Better to have a seperate department responsible for handling garbage problem monitored under a ministry. Current system is an utter failure in most of the areas around the country.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:49 AM

It is hoped that at least now, the UNP will not make a "spectable" of itself and submit a well planned nomination list whenever the elections are held. Now with the increased pries for gas, milk, bread etc. no sane person in the city will vote for the UPFA.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:34 AM

Mr. Chief Minister, if it is because of corruption, it is not only the CMC that should be dissolved.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:31 AM

Sri Jayawardhenapura is our capital city.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 10:12 AM

Very late, CMC should have dissolved long time back.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:54 AM

If Sheriff could use the term "we" on his comment, I would like to say "we, the Sinhalese" are always ready to vote for UNP, as long as Ranil is there as the leader of the party. But this is an extreme comment and logically, a single person can't represent the full opinion of a community, especially when SLMC is solidly backing the UNP, Sheriff can't individually give a different opinion on his own, on behalf of all the Muslims in Colombo.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:41 AM

Good move. Well done. Let's see the lovely elephant is coming to scene.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:37 AM

we dont care about who ever is managing CMC. I request as a resident in colombo, please solve the garbage problem in Colombo.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:27 AM

Time has come for UNP to get elected and rule the CMC as the best of the world and get attention of the people despite the fact that the government will treat as stepmothers child

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:13 AM

I am a UNP traditional voter from colombo. this time we will not vote for UNP.enough is enough. We have patronised UNP enough times. ultimateley we are accused by the government that WE are anti SLFP. we muslim community had to undergo severe punishment of this government and UNP did nothing for us. as long as Ranil remains in the leadership we will not vote for him.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:05 AM

Rosy should be an ideal appointment disregarding the party she belongs to. Much healthy, intelligent and with integrity, definitely will be effective.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 07:54 AM

Now Sweet Rosy gets a chance to become the next Mayor.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 09:03 AM

Colombo is corrupted?!?!?!? NO WAY! that would've been my last assumption.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:58 AM

Good work not only CMC , Dehiwala MC also should be the same and get some new blood to reviterlise the area as it stinks right along galle rd,

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:56 AM

Hope RANIL is not the candidate of UNP. As UNPers , we can't loose this election too.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:54 AM

@Chief Ministers, Why not dissolve other Councils which are not favorable to public policy or political advantage.

@Kandy CM - for sure you converted the Deputy Mayor from Green to Multi coloured party and appointed him the mayor. Now all the people within the Kandy MC are suffering and know about his misdeeds, which you too cant stop. You do not feel it because you don't come from Kandy.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:48 AM

Does this mean that everything with corruption is going to be dissolved?

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:43 AM

The colombo Municipal Council to be abolished foreever. Colombo is our capital city which should not be administered by gansters and underwold thugs. The illegal encroachers, shanty dwellers who are not rate payers have the majority of votes resulting ratepayers become a minority. Ultimately decision of spending ratepayers money is taken by non ratepayers! unlawful street lamps for private properties, repairing of private access roads, questionable pensions and poor relief are being carried out by ratepayers money.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:33 AM

Best way for garbage disposal - hand it over to the private sector - and payment should be made according to the lorryfuls containing garbage.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:32 AM

Hope there will be a better garbage disposal system. In Colombo, the cleanest era was during the tenure of Karu J as Mayor.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:30 AM

after the last council election, who ruled the cmc, was it by the elected members?. what is new now. It is only to waste public money again in the name election.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:23 AM

It is time a top professional is put at the helm of CMC. Someone who has a backbone to get the work out of officials and who knows why CMC is existing. Not to take our money but provide a proper environment to live, saniation, good road sand drainage systems, nice parks and playgrounds.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:19 AM

Let's hope at least UNP could file a valid and legitimate list of candidates this time around. It could be possible as Milinda is not around and UNP will have to keep Mahroof away for a while

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:10 AM

All the past Elections it was GREEN and it will be GREEN for ever.

    Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:01 AM

Time to see a BLUE Colombo yet again !!! Dear Colombo Citizens, your walls are about to be evaded by the so called "Glamorous" and "Attractive" posters of the "Public Servants".
