The Kiribathgoda Police have been rushed to the scene and students residing in the campus hostel have been issued a notice to vacate the university premises before 8.00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

    Spot on !!!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 07:27 PM

Ban politics and unions in all universities and introduce competitive and comprehensive curricula so that students will have to be engaged in study, with no time for unnecessary activity.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 08:46 PM

This is in the famous 'doctor's' electorate. The Minister of Higher Education has no say in this matter!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 10:15 PM

No wonder university graduates find it difficult to get jobs!

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 12:27 AM

The whole of Kelaniya is flooded; many people are struggling; but, these jokers are fighting for a non-issue.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 12:54 AM

I think this is the mistake of having both arts and science faculties together. These should be separated.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 12:59 AM

Free Education, if at all, should be only up to secondary school level. Beyond that, the students should pay, even by doing part time jobs like in many developed countries. At present most employers avoid recruiting University Types because they are considered trouble makers. Invariably the whole lot end up warming chairs in government service and getting paid at the Taxpayers' expense.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:20 AM

It is always the case, these fellows are not studying, not allowing other to study and also creating chaos and damaging public property. Strict dicipline should be enforced and all trouble makers should be suspended from universities for life. Let them pay and continue studying if they want to. These guyes are a menace to the genuine students who want to study and pass out.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:32 AM

Private universities will stop this cancer once and for all.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 03:59 AM

This fighting will continues endlessly until JVP involvement is there. they every time formulate these type for fights.
i wonder when UGC will address this issue. it is widely known factor that no real action been taken by UGS.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 05:04 PM

This is a shame on our university students. They are the future of the country, but their behavior is ridiculous. How country can depend on such idiots who fight for nothing.
Younger generation is energetic and that is understood by everyone. They are university students, not stray dogs. Country expects more from them. They are intelligent but manipulated by university system or by political hands. University students are expected to do some productive work for the betterment of the society (through research, project studies).

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 04:17 AM

If Students to universities were selected only on All Island Merit Basis, problems of this nature wouldn't have happened.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 04:34 AM

So free education is to blame? Rubbish! Do thuggish students indulge in gang warfare at colleges and universities in other countries with free or subsidised education? I have never seen or heard of it. No, only in Sri Lanka. And why? Because these kids elders' set the example.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 04:41 AM

Fully agreed! Also this raises a question about intellectuality of those bunch idiots who supposed to be "intelligent" than others.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:32 AM

Hats off to all medical students. They have an aim in life.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 05:45 AM

No, it is not due to 'free' education. These uni idiots get 'bursary' and on top of it free hostel, free electricity and free water which is taxpayers money, better stop giving them all these facilities so that they will have to work part time to find some money and value the hard earned money.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 06:05 AM

I am a graduate from University of Kelaniya. DONT BALME free education or district basis or anything else for these nasty student violence. This is due to 100% JVP political influences. Sorry to say that JVP is always using university students as their 'bates".

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 06:16 AM

The punishment!!The punishment is not strong. No matter what the number is;whoever involved must be sent home without any mercy.

    Thursday, 20 May 2010 06:22 AM

Earlier JVP were blamed for student uprisings - now it is clear they were not to blame. Blame the machinery of the government in not taking stict measures to curb youth terror. Sack the students involved - they will curb demands of employment after they graduate. SACK THEM AS EDUCATION IS FREE. Send only those who are interested in studying, to the universities.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:34 PM

Close down the university and setup distance learning.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:06 PM

No value for free education. The only thing these idiots don't do is...studying !.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:08 PM

i hope yet again to postpone the exams .

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:10 PM

Result of free education...Government should initiate private universities without further delay

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:20 PM

Why not bring the Kelaniya university under the Ministry of highways. Definitely they will have to findout their ownways.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:20 PM

These students do not know the value of free education. Please take out free education from theese buggers

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:21 PM

Jayawewa...Everybody knows that Science faculty are mostly anti-raggers and Arts the other side. Why UGC is so blind?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:24 PM

    800 students clashing? 40, 50 is clash.
    800? war boy war.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:29 PM

It is time that we get rid of these Arts Faculties with free Education because it is an utter misuse of Tax payers Funds. These Students never study but only involved in politically motivated activities.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:29 PM

Close down all state universities, and ask the students to pay at least a nominal fee.

They should know the value of education.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:05 PM

This is the fault of Free Education. Anything free is not appreciated.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:50 PM

I thought the "students" are there to "study"... Am I missing something here?

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:53 PM

Looks like there will be another clash this time, between Minister of Higher Education and THE Doctor.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 12:54 PM

Aftermath of film "Clash of the Titans"???

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 01:08 PM

idiots wating parents money & asipirations.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 02:43 PM

pro JVP arts students have become a nuisance. JVP needs to be abolished in order to have a peaceful sri lanka.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 04:25 PM

Only medical faculties have wise students. Their priority is studies. Arts guys have no ambition at all.

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 04:50 PM

This is the method use by some political parties to bring up there future leaders. !!

    Wednesday, 19 May 2010 04:50 PM

i agree... I myself am a University student. Luckily from the FAculty of law where no such thing happen. Not because we dont have issues but because if we do clash which each other and our names our listed out in the police we wonnt be able to take oaths as lawyers. Thats the only thing that stops us. We Sri Lankans are selfish and just don't care about others. Do u think that anyone would clash and create issues if they had to pay for their degree? i think not. How come we dont see such issues in all the private colleges around.
