The CID informed the Colombo Court Magistrate today that it had obtained the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses used by Dhanuna Thilakaranthna and were trying to trace his whereabouts through this information.

Submitting a report in court, the CID informed the Magistrate that the IP addresses which were used by Dhanuna belonged to a United States based Internet Service Provider (ISP).

The CID further informed court to issue an order to the Director General of the Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (TRC) to obtain details from the local ISP’s about the subscriber through whose account Dhanuna had accessed the internet.

Having considered the submissions, Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the TRC Director General to submit the necessary details.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:54 AM

WHY DONT YOU PEOPLE ARREST SHAKVITHI/MRS.KOTHALAWELA AND ALL BOGUS JOB AGENCY GUYS TOO? IS IT A VIP SERVICE FOR TOP BRASS.?

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:55 AM

Dear Ranjith: Don't show your IT savy intelectual arrogance. Our intelligence network is smarter than you.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:02 PM

Every citizen have a rights to protect them self when the law and order goes to dogs. 1st GOSL must shows that country is rule under the legal system.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:05 PM

From this can any one believe Sri Lankan CID arrested KP ..

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:17 PM

so proxy users and tunnelling users don't have any IPs?? lol

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:29 PM

You are wrong. Still possible to track. There are ways. Cannot escape if he continue to use internet or other electronic devices.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:33 PM

changing IP address is not a big deal CID might find a work around too , but what if the IP address belongs to a Starbucks or McDonalds :- )

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 12:52 PM

If danuna uses Onion Routes, its untraceble as he could protect his computrer address..

Empty vessels make a big noise and with little know how from somewhere & attempting to create an imepression

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 01:11 PM

up to when this all drama going???people are not fool...

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 01:22 PM

    dear Ranjith
i agree wih you on this
let SL CID recruit some network expert to searh

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 01:55 PM

Why can't thet CID try to trace Mrs. Cisisly Kotalaswala & Sakvithi using the same tactics

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:40 AM

What if he had accessed the net through a cyber cafe? Are they going to prosecute the owners of the cafe?

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 02:08 PM

CID can find more money if they investigate the VAT invaders .Most of them are now hold minister posts in UPFA government

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 02:08 PM

Do not under estimate CID. There are very capable people among them.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 06:26 PM

I think they would have tracked an email sent by him ...

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 07:04 PM

This could be an 'eye-wash'? Hope the poor boy is still alive.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 09:14 PM

CID officers will do what pleases their masters. All for the sake of finding a reason to imprison our nation's hero, General Sarath Fonseka. Sir, you will always be in the hearts and minds of true and righteous Sri Lankans.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 09:25 PM

CID, do you have any way of tracking Prageeth Eknaligoda's whereabouts?

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:00 PM

But, they still couldn't find Sakvithi Ranasinghe ...

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:34 PM

Ranjith, I hope you do understand the TCP/IP and VPN protocols ... 'Packet encapsulation' doesn't mean that you are 'invisible,' as many people believe.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:35 PM

I think he signed Sarath N. Silva's infamous petition. Danuna's name was at number 20!

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:41 PM

This is election 'propaganda' - addressing the 'gallery.'

    Wednesday, 10 March 2010 07:47 PM

    Don't kid yourself!

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:06 AM

I think the “commanding General” who was the “common candidate” should command Dhanuna to come clean instead of avoiding arrest like a common criminal.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:05 AM

Fool CID. he may use any US based proxy or VPN tunneling for his net connection. therefore he can access internet from Sri Lanka with other country IP address

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:17 AM

I wish that the CID was this active in respect of all its investigations.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:28 AM

It is not a big deal to our CID to find his whereabouts. Its only a matter of priority. Sakithi Ranasinghe still hiding while KP taken to custody.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:31 AM

Can the CID use same tactics to arrest Mrs Kotalawala to satisfy more people in this country. That is a real deserving job. but no political push for that.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:39 AM

You should join the CID Ranjith. Seems like you have the brains for it.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:43 AM

This is just another game played by CID. We can see more closer towards 8th April.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:43 AM

What about Sakwithi Ranasinghe and Rohan Perera. Why isn't thee CID going trace these crooks as well

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:44 AM

I thing CID knows his place.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:52 AM

Ranjith - These idiots at CID and Govt. has very limited knowledge in IT. Utter waste of time and energy when they can devote themselves in better things.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:56 AM

Why CID cannot put same effort to find out Mr.Pradeep Eknaligoda ?? His wife and poor two sons are awaiting some news from their father.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 10:57 AM

Oh God! Is there no end to this nonsense

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:00 AM

This makes me laugh out at this news. This shows incompetency of CID hehe... . You r correct Ranjith...

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 09:58 AM

Persecuting a young man on trumped-up charges.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:06 AM

Why wait, catch him and prove your capabilities

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:08 AM

How a person like Dhanuna could have slipped out of the country right under the nose of the CID. Shows how corrupt our system is. I am sure he is innocent, but that is besides the point. The law cannot even catch such a simple guy

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:12 AM

Do u think. Sri Lankan CID is that fool, forget it. They have done things which other inteligence services could have done in decades.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:23 AM

well they couldn't pin point to prabhakaran when he was alive, so they think he can be tracked with ease? he is too smart and so are people helping him.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:24 AM

CID knows only how to use a typewriter.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:26 AM

Dhanuna may be using Obama's or Ban ki Moon's ISP. The reason for him to abscond could be the fabricated charges of the GOSL to keep him under arrest. Anyone in his position would do that looking at what heppens in Sri Lanka.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:26 AM

If you are smart, you will not reveal the techniques you are using to find a person. Just showing off that you know something about IP addrsses. Just wast of time.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:33 AM

CID !! dont show your ignorance to the whole world .. can you stop being the laughing stock...

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:34 AM

Ranjith You are absolutely correct. Our fools try to teach the world and become laughing stock.

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:37 AM

may b they think there very smart enough. First they have educate them about net surfing. Its big jock. also we did IT course

    Tuesday, 09 March 2010 11:37 AM

Obviously our "smart" sleuths have not heard of anonymous proxy servers or cloaking. They need to re-take IT-101 class again.
