The Roman Catholic Church in Sri Lanka today dismissed the reports that that Pope Francis would not visit Sri Lanka next year.
The statement issued by the church referred to a statement allegedly made by chief Opposition whip John Amaratunga that the pope would not visit Sri Lanka.
The church statement said the pope's visit would go ahead as planned.
The church expressed sorrow over the use of the pope's image in election material. The church urged that posters and cutouts with pictures of politicians with the pope be removed immediately. (Yohan Perera)
